There are only 2 A&F stores in Manhatten, the biggest is at the top of 5th Avenue (about 2 blocks away from the park), however, there is a second one down in South Street Seaport. The shop is considerably smaller but stocks exactly the same stuff!

You can chance your luck asking for a discount but I'm pretty sure the answer will be no!

the main store was mental when we were there, plus the music was unbearably loud, even for someone in early 20s so no grandad remarks. the other store down by the south street seaport was grand, i think it may be on fulton street or something like that. basically head towards ground zero from the ferry port and its on the left hand side.

    Thanks Guys

How far is Fulton St from Times Sq?

    Is it beside Ground Zero

Sorry I have no idea where anything is!

Fulton Street is at the bottom tip of the island, your best bet would be to jump into a taxi and ask to go to South Street Seaport or use the subway. The downtown loop of the tourist buses stop there as well.

South Street Seaport is a touristy area so it'll be on every map.

There's also a TKTS booth down there, exactly the same as the Times Sq booth minus the queues, we walked straight in and got tickets for the show we were looking for!

    Cool Thanks

And South Street is beside Ground Zero too?

Yes it is, both at the bottom of the island, you could easily walk from one to the other

Best night club i was in was pacha, if you sign up for their mailing list you will get free entry for yourself and a guest on any friday night. Entry to night clubs is usually $40 with bottles of beer at $7(not inc tip!), they do stay open all night though. Bars are much more popular/cheaper and bleecker street is the place to be, right beside NYU so loads of students around. The town tavern is the one that sticks in my mind, but there are loads. Good times:)

Does anyone know what the story is with getting into pubs over there when you're under 21 (I'm 20 btw)? I know someone who was over there a few years back for the summer and it was a case of being able to drink just not being allowed to purchase it or something, but does anyone know what the actual story is with it, is it a case of wristbands or just a no go area or what?! Thanks.

In my experience almost impossible to get served in the USA if you look under 25 except in some of the Irish bars.

In saying that it's in NY that I've been asked the least for ID. I'm 33 but get asked about 50% of the time. Almost 100% of the time in CA.

See that AerLingus are charging some nice prices for flights at the moment, 87 Euro each way. Including all the extras, 330 return.

My boyfriend and I are both over 21 but only just(21 and 22). We had drinks almost every night and never got IDed, even in bars. I did get asked once if I was over 21, I said yes and that was it.

Me and my boyfriend werent left into an irish bar because we hadnt carried our passports with us...I'm 27 and He is 32...so, i'd say it depends on where you go..although in saying that, i get asked for ID ALL the time here in cork...but my boyfriend in 32 and looks it.

    He'll love you for that!

I found in New York and Chicago that I wasn't ID'ed at all...but was all the time in Las Vegas and SF.

The only time I was asked for ID in New York was when I was buying wine in a supermarket.

    In MSG - $7.50
Most bars will have happy hours and promotions, you can get pints for as cheap as $2 if you find the right place at the right time. Mostly talking $5ish for a beer though.

Just back from 4 days in the New Yorker, there was no safe in the room and we didn't look into getting one. We were in one of the unrenovated rooms so maybe in the newer ones they provide safes, we just hid everything in our luggage.

Am pretty sure the beach area of Coney Island is due to be fully redeveloped this year...so not sure how "nice" it would be with lots of construction work going on.

If you do head out there, be sure to get a hot dog from Nathans. They have a Hot Dog eating competition there every year on Independence Day.

You could also head to Long Island. Trains run from Penn Station and there are plenty of beaches there.

Overall meathlass what would you say bout the hotel. What was customs like on the way back?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,587 ✭✭✭hshortt

I came back with the missus on a Sunday morning at 5am. Although there were customs officers on duty we were not stopped and neither were our friends who came out after us, when talking afterwards we didn't see anyone getting stopped. The liklihood of there being less inspections after Christmas is good. I will say that I was concerned about it and it did affect some of the intended purchases in New York.

Don't forget to add a dollar for the bartender ;)

    True that. :(

Everywhere we went they were really nice though, which seems kinda weird when they theoretically don't have to be nice as tips are pretty much a given over there.

They'll start off nice by giving you the benefit of the doubt. But if you tip badly they won't be nice, unless they are foreign where there is a higher chance of getting someone nice on low tips.

It was grand, some of the reviews on tripadvisor are very offputting but it was fine, the corridor was rundown and being renovated and the room was small but that's NY. The bed was changed everyday and the shower was so powerful it removed skin, I would compare it to a b and b that's a bit old fashioned, plenty of storage space in our room (2340) , great location too, there's a nice irish bar called tir na nog a block away and next to it is a diner that does breakfast all day, didn't eat in any of the places in the hotel. I did a review of my whole trip on the review section here.

No one stopping at customs, same as when I went before Christmas.
