Was overdue a bad patch and seemed to have entered one :(

I don't want to take a break as I'm off for a few days this weekend anyway.
So what do you reckon is the best thing to do when you hit a bad patch?

Play at the lower end of your stakes?
    Play a different game?

I said to one regular mtt player here I was thinking of playing a few mtts for a change, he replied quite rightly imo, that it might be the worst thing I could do if I end up playing for hours and end up bubbling it could really tilt me.

abuse in the chat box :P

Take a few hours break and do something.

Play the lower end of things as you just need to realize its a bad patch and no need for confidence to be shook!

play shorter sessions, less tables and concentrate more. it's v difficult not to start playing a little worse if you're losing due to coolers/bad beats/whatever. once you feel you're playing well it's obv only a matter of time before things pick up

Im also ona very bad run playing cash - like i lose a BI on a cooler or bad beat then spew another one or two away atrociously soon after.

Took my spewy ways to a 70 player MTT last night and took it down to recoup a good share of cash losses. my first ever mtt win! I've played some heads up STTs as well and 7 card stud which i find entertaining even though im not great at it.
Might stay away from NLH cash until i learn to control my retardedness again

Must be something in the Irish water, I dont know whats wrong with me, but running bad all week, and all its doing is putting me off as since its really only SnG I play, usually 2 tables a time, just keep thinking how quick Im running down my bankroll. The confidence takes a knock and now playing a bit more Omaha to give me a break from Hold'em... rightly or wrongly...

I think moving down a limit and trying to play through the bad variance is a good way to do it. As roadsweeper said, the worst thing with a bad patch is the confidence lost in your own game, I start to second guess myself when playing badly and there is nothing better then moving down to a limit where you KNOW you are better then everyone...

    good luck with it.

    1. Get some excercise so that your neural connections are refreshed, and the endorphins should put you into a better mood and a more positive frame of mind before each session.

    2. Then just focus on trying to play each street of each hand as well as you can.

I take a couple of days off no matter what. Having time to play is no good if you are feeling the effects of a bad run. A psychological trick is to play on a different skin / site with a different name for a week, and you should magically be free of that bad run with the old name and bankroll.

Or do what I did last week on an 8 buy in downswing over 3 days and just play Zelda for 16 hours instead :)

regardless of wanting to play because of free time, you should definitely take a break. does your MSN name mean your down $27k so far? playing what?

You don't need a reason to play Zelda for 16 hours!

lol, sheit no :D No I upped my target for the year, decided to take into account rakeback, easier to see where I was at the end of each month as pokertracker doesn't record sng results on a lot of sites and sharkscope doesn't capture all tournaments, it's missed out on quite a few of my results on iPoker this month.

No I'm actually having quite a decent month, just the last 2 days have been crap. I just learned from past experience that one tends to fuç up more when you hit a bad variance spell after a longer than normal decent spell.

anyway I have hardly played at all this evening, been watching a film tonight and relaxing. Going to stop the pfaffing around and get back to playing my regular games tomorrow and try to disspell the doubts from my mind.

cheers, I might very well do this. Mind you I play across several sites anyway, but maybe a new alias on same network mightn't be a bad idea :)

Thanks for all the advice everyone btw, I know this was a bit low contentish but I just needed to clear the head so to speak.

I've just started playing stts after a good six months away from them and have found thtat scope misses approx 25% on ipoker, I used to play crypto and it never missed a game

I only started using scope a couple of months ago, I noticed it use to miss the odd one here and there. I thought it was pretty on the ball then I noticed out of my first 50 or so sngs this year on ipoker it missed out 11 or 12, first time I really noticed it missing them badly.
