You download 1.1.2 then you hold shift key and click update then you browse to where you have 1.1.2 and update to it

I can confirm that the NextSims work with UK iPhones. I bought two, one for myself and one for my wife. Bear in mind that you will need to copy info from the O2UK SIM to the NextSim using another phone and then attach your SIM and insert in the iPhone.

BUT THEY DO WORK WITH 1.1.2 OTB

Just noticed the 1.1.3 update on iTunes. Carefully hit the cancel button.

i tried ibrickr but it said 'bummer' it seems you've got 1.1.1 (which I d/loaded), then it says I need to d/load to 1.0.2

Is this the correct link to the 1.1.2 firmware?
http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPhone/061-4037.20071107.5Bghn/iPhone1,1_1.1.2_3B48b_Restore.ipsw

It's not via apple.com, but edgesuite.net, so I'm not sure... I just found it while researching before I get my iphone. It's 160mb.

?

Need some tech head help. Can I configure the iPhone's WIFI Proxies using a PAC file. My wife lectures in DCU and the only settings "IT" will give her is the URL of the the PAC file.

Any ideas?
Thanks

What were you trying to do with ibrickr

i was referring to using ibrickr to boot the iphone out of recovery mode after the 1015 error from a downgrade to 1.1.1 that is all

I use Proxy Auto-config (PAC) functionality daily. When I recently got an iPhone I was a bit disappointed to find out that it doesn't have the robust network configuration tools that OS X has. There isn't any way through the UI to tell the system to use a PAC file. However, the iPhone is running OS X, just with a lot of the front end removed.

Here's instructions on how to set this up. I'm not a coder, so you don't get any pretty installer. I'm also not a sysadmin or an OS X expert so it's possible there's a better way to do this. I'm happy to get feedback. Also, disclaimer, this works for me, but I've only had it working for a day. If this breaks your iPhone, I am in no way responsible. I assume you have some knowledge of Unix and Unix tools before attempting this.

To do this you'll need to hack your iPhone to have things like ssh and scp, and preferably a terminal application. To do this, I've had pretty good luck with Installer.app from Nullriver: http://iphone.nullriver.com/beta/ You'll also want a wifi connection. It's not necessary, but these instructions are written assuming you can ssh to your iPhone from your local LAN.

Get that installed (really easy) and then use it to install things like Term-vt100, OpenSSH, and BSD Subsystem. I believe you'll have what you need. You might need DNS Tools as well.

Once this is all installed you're ready to go. Run your terminal app and determine your iPhone's IP address with ifconfig. You're interested in your wifi address, which is interface en0. From the terminal, run the command ifconfig -a Look for the en0 line. There should be an IP address next to inet. If you're doing NAT it'll probably be something like 10.0.32.5.

Since you'll be copying files off of your iPhone, I suggest using scp. You'll want to change the root password first which has to be done on the iPhone. You're automatically logged in as root, so at the shell prompt, just type passwd and set it to something you won't forget. I forget what the default is.

On a normal OS X install PAC configuration is contained in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist On the iPhone however it's all in /private/var/root/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist You'll need to copy this file to your computer unless you feel like using a text editor on the iPhone. I suggest against this right now.

The best way I know of is to use scp. From a shell on your computer run:

scp root@10.0.32.5:/private/var/root/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist .

I highly suggest making a backup of this file. Call it preferences.plist.iphone or something. Now you need to edit the plist file. It's a plain text XML file so I suggest vi.

Now I'm the first to admit I don't fully understand this file. There's entries for all the network interfaces, but on mine at least, there's three sections for en0, almost exactly the same except for the <key> tag. You can find these by looking for "Interface" sections and a "DeviceName" key followed by the "en0" string. Right below these sections you should see a "Proxies" key with the first subkey "ExceptionsList". When you find these sections add the following lines before the </dict> tag:

<key>ProxyAutoConfigEnable</key>
<integer>1</integer>
<key>ProxyAutoConfigURLString</key>
<string>http://location.of.proxy.pac</string>

Replace location.of.proxy.pac with wherever your proxy.pac file is. Alternately, you can put it in root's home directory (or anywhere else really) and use something like file://var/root/proxy.pac. You may only have to add it to the first en0 entry, but to be safe I'd do it for all of them.

To enable PAC for EDGE you'll need to find the entry for interface ip1. In this case there isn't a pre-existing Proxies section. Do the same as above but before the four lines put:

<key>Proxies</key>
<dict>

And then after:

</dict>

Now that the file is edited, you need to copy it back. You might want to ssh into the iPhone and copy the existing preferences.plist to preferences.plist.bak or something. Just in case. Backups are always good. In any case do something like:

scp preferences.plist root@10.0.32.5:/private/var/root/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration

Once you've done this you should be pretty much good to go. There's some sort of file reload timer in the OS that reloads the preferences.plist file from time to time. The new file won't take affect until this happens. I've found that this usually takes anywhere from 5-15 minutes.

And that's about it. I suggest keeping copies of any files you've modified backed up somewhere other than the iPhone. My understanding is any hacks you've done will get wiped out when Apple releases new Firmware updates. Luckily once you understand what's going on it's pretty easy to revert to your hacks.

Good luck!

Should be no problem just make sure you hold down the shift key before you click on the update button and then you can choose 1.1.2

does anyone know when the software unlock for 1.1.2 will be out

Hi all,

I'm trying to use the iPhone for MMS and have been reading on U.S. based forums that if you send a picture to the mobile number of the recipient followed by their carrier's email address that this will work, for e.g.

mobilenumber@o2.ie

The above example is what I have tried without any success. Can anybody please shed some light on this subject?

Thanks.

Really?? wow, that's great news.......i'll believe that when i see it tho!
I think there's another issue, and that's Jailbreaking 1.1.3, Can't be done yet and StealthSim needs a Jailbroken iphone to work.

`Does anyone know how the new 1.1.3 map features work?
The one where it shows you where you are, i'm guessing it uses the location of
cell towers to triangulate a position or something complicated like that...
any idea if it'l work here?

off topic:
does anyone know how to stop this stupid "`" charachter coming up randomly when i start typing? :o

Yeah, fantastic news if it's true, but from my reading of hackint0sh it seems for any of the *Sims to work they first need to figure how to jailbreak 1.1.3?
http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=23406

Interesting that Turbosim, the *sim with the highest expectations, doesn't work yet. I guess they'll come up with something...

I got my iphone unlocked with a turbosim in a place beside Dunnes Stores on George's St.

It only cost me 80 euro. Quite cheap compared to other places charging excess of 150euro to unlock it.

Just to let those know and who are about to fork out 150 euro for a turbosim

I've tried to d/load SKYPE on my iphone, but it says the page is too big? Can I put skype on my iphone and use it with wifi and if so, can I phone / txt USA the same as I can do on my computer?

Also, I thought I had successfully jailbreaked (bad grammar, i know!). I can use all the facilities on it like utube, maps, etc. but it's not recognizing my sim. I can't make calls or txts, it says sim locked - enter pin - when i enter my vodafone pin it says incorrect sim, this iphone must be used with an approved sim. Can anyone enlighten me. Did I forget to do something?

Those are not real turbo sims

They are some kind of "X"sim that they are calling turbosim

But 80 is not a bad price but there are cheaper options

Jailbreak does not unlock your phone it activates it so you can use all the features except the phone

If it was 1.1.2 otb then you need some "X" sim to unlock it

If it was 1.1.1 otb then you need to run anysim to unlock
