I am sorry but your statements are not true. This dog is an English Staffordshire Bullterrier and they are not commonly used for fighting. The lock jaw myth is just that: a myth - be it with Staffies or Pit Bulls.

    Just a Quick History Lesson.(not a dig)
The breeding of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier started here in Ireland, the early breeds didnt look like the staffords we know and love today.
Unfortunatly they were bred for one purpose, fighting and putting food on the table but have long since became loyal and loving pets.
A man named Joe Mallen was famous for breeding champion fighting dogs,
he moved from Ireland and settled in Staffordshire, hence the name.
it is only since years of breeding he came up with the ultimate fighting Stafford, he named this dog Stonecoat Pride, he also had another dog by the name of Gentle Jim from which the standard was set.
Then they started showing thier dogs and the new standard was set and still is the "perfect SBT" Jim the Dandy.
Regarding the dog pictured, i would be glad to donate some money to help this dog back to health,
it sickens me to know people put such a low value on dogs lives, dont know bout you guys but i couldnt even watch the BBCs programme on international fighting rings even tho it did shead alot of light on the subject

I'm dashing off to work at the moment and honestly don't have time to check out your own site to see if you have paypal etc.

But I don't think anyone here would object to you appealing for a small donation to the girls treatment.

I'd certainly send you something, I think you do sterling work for the bull breeds.

I would really like to contribute to this too. The poor little thing deserves a chance at a new life. Please let me know paypal/ charity details

Actually I can believe it. Animals constantly amaze me with their resilience.

As I said earlier, you do sterling work and you and people like you are an inspiration to the rest of us.

Tbh, I wouldn't have what it takes to do what you do, I'm the biggest softie and seeing animals distressed tears me apart.

    Give that over.

This is an 'Animals & Pet Issues' forum, it says so on the tin!.

This thread is about a dog which is in the care of EGAR.

If you care about dogs how about showing it for this poor dog and leave this other rubbish alone.

exactly. and the last time I checked horses were considered animals. Anyway, best wishes to little Berni, hopefully she'll be feeling better soon.

There has been an update from my vet. I will have to take Berni to Galway City to the ARK Vet Clinic (they have lots of specialists there one of which saved Parci the GD pup). Apparently, the injury will need specialist help . I am posting more about this tomorrow when I have a clearer picture. That also means that I need to step up the fundraising. Parci OP for example was over 1000 Euro .

Berni is doing very well and is eating and grateful for ANY attention shown to her, be it only to stick a needle in her .

I wont be keeping her but I WILL try to rehome her to the UK as she would be damned to a life with a muzzle here (restricted Breeds Act) and I wont be doing that to her. No way.

And guys, I am GOBSMACKED! I have just checked my PayPal and the Berni Fund has reached €519.28 EUR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    THANK you all SOOOO much!!!!

Omg - I'm almost in tears here about that poor dog. And I'm in work so need to get it together! :D

What I find the saddest thing about this case was that it took you 2 days to get hold of the dog. Jeez - even if they put the poor thing to sleep rather than leaving it in that state. I just cannot get my head around how someone could leave an animal suffering like that.

EGAR - you are a hero - well done. I'm making a contribution now and hope the treatment is effective.

so sorry that any human had to see this and that any animals no matter what it's breed is endure such horrific cruelty.
Have sent a little too, it's never ending, I'm supporting a group that is neutering 60 cats at the moment too so not much spare cash. I wish you and the dog all the best.

    Egar,
have you considered that the dog might have gotten itself into a fight that caused the injury and might fight again in the future? It may be that walking outside with a muzzle on could be a sensible option for the dog itself and other dogs. daily walks with a muzzle are not that distressing and may even be protective with an injury like that?
what may also shock people is that injuries like that are not unkonown in people, often from sporting injuries, car accidents or even after radical surgery.
    as case report
    pasted
Degloving injury to mental protuberance: a case report
P.P. McLaughlin1 Department of Paediatric Dentistry, Edinburgh Dental Institute, Lauriston Building, Lauriston Place, Edinburgh EH3 9YW, UK
Correspondence to: Dr. P.P. McLaughlin Specialist Paediatric Practice, 81 Main Street, Cumbernauld Village, Glasgow G67 2RT, UK.
    Abstract
Sporting injuries are increasing in frequency with the increase in leisure time. This report describes a case of degloving of the mental protuberance. Ideally this injury should be treated as soon as possible by repositioning the displaced tissue and closure. Immediate assistance was not sought until superimposed infection caused pain and swelling. Because the wound was infected, treatment was aimed at obtaining healing by secondary intention

...I should just tell you, this is my fault.

I PM'd BryanL about this link as he didn't really believe this type of thing happened and that some people who are involved in animal rescue are in for the massive profit gains.

He thinks dogs getting "torn apart" by other dogs is an urban myth. I thought pming him with this story would make him realise that it does go on.

I don't know why he is copying and pasting childrens dentists and childrens doctors from Scotland. What expertise they have with small animal practices eludes me.

Yes i also failed to see the point he has tried to make.... Animal and Pet issues not sport injuries or children forum...

    You cannot be serious.
Egar I have not met you, but have looked at your site and followed previous posts of yours and at no time did I come to the conclusion other that you are a dedicated carer and any dog in your care will get the treatment it needed and you will worry how to pay later, many groups or individuals rely on the good will of the public or they would never survive.
There may be folks making cash out of animals, I find that hard to comprehend, all the groups that I've been involved with, I have been to their premises, have seen first hand the cruelty of man no need to MAKE IT UP! It's all too prevalent. I am not easily disgusted but the comment of the OP is most upsetting unless he has proof, either put up or shut up. This is about an injured animals not dental facilities in Scotland.
