Thanks lad. Good luck to everyone else here. It's been a long time coming.

    Everyone should not worry yet.

I haven't got a medical date yet..have been told it should be towards the end of the month.

Have been told I am okay subject to medical/vetting.

Hope there are no problems with either, as I passed both for Campaign 12 < 1 year ago, so I am quietly confident.

It's not over till its over!!

Got a month or so to get fit now. Hitting the weights tomorrow :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 199 ✭✭MartinC2006

I'm not to bad that way, just back from training actually.Have to shed some Christmas pounds though.

If your worried about your fitness I'd be forgetting the weights and hitting the thread mill etc :D

Are you 100% going for this intake? I'm considering asking to Defer. Need to check my contact about notice periods and I've a holiday booked for the last week in Feb! Not so much a holiday as Its actually supervising a school Ski trip.

I said I'd call the lady tomorrow morning to confirm.

    Martin.

High intensity training prob best for what you lads will be doing, biggest pe session you will have is the 5k run, which aint that hard, best to do HIT or hill sprinting to get fitness up for pca.
Find yourself a hill somewhere that aint too busy, pick2 points about 100m apart, start at the bottom point and sprint fast as you can to the top one, turn at top and jog back down to the lower point taking no longer than about 45 seconds to jog back then turn and sprint to top point again. If you can do 8 continual hill sprints in a row your doin well!
I would reccomend doing this once a week along with normal distance running you do;)

Absolutely 100% with bells on. The way I see it, the sooner I get in, the sooner I get out.

Yeah, going to do a bit of running aswell.

    Cheers,

    I'm over the moon.

As strange as it sounds I feel like I've won the lottery \o/

I'm looking into the possiblity of defering one intake, so maybe I'll see some of you there!

Hey guys just finished my first week at Garnerville, my squad is very small with less than 30 people and its made up of 6 people from campaign 13 including myself and the rest from as far back as 10,11 and 12.

Congrats Martin well pleased for you mate, if you decide to go with feb it will be my squad showing your families etc around for the SRN. Maybe meet up with you for a cup of coffee or something.

PSNI thanks again mate for all the help, first week over and really looking forward to getting stuck in!.

P.S Do not under-estimate the PE we had our first lesson this week and the circuit training was tight going.

    Good luck guys

congratulations everyone who has got this far.

Some interesting comments regarding the whole process, especially from psni.

I am still in the current campaign, passed initial selection tes, and the assesment centre. Just waiting now for medical date and vetting.

I notice some of you already have done these quite some time now, why am i still not getting word of dates?

Some questions also about my chances of being selected.

First of all I am 19, and would like to know will this hinder my chances of being recruited. Secondly about the medical test, do they fail people for having a High BMI, because mine is high but only because I lift alot of weights, im actually only around 10% body fat at 15 stone and 6ft 1, hope they dont see the BMI as a reason for failing because I run several times a week and train 4 days a week in the gym.

    Thanks to those who reply.

Goodcopbadcop, firstly, dont worry too much bout vetting and medical, could be to do with xmas hols etc.
As for your bmi, dont worry about it, the just dont go by it, the go by how you look and perform the simple tests they get you to do on the day of the medical as well.
Hope it all goes well for you mate.;)

thanks for the info, feel a bit better now.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 34 jim2001

Goodcopbadcop would not worry about your BMI, Im 21, 6 foot 14 stone and lift weights to and I passed the medical, they know that people who lift weights/play rugby etc will have a higher bmi.

Good luck the rest of the process

thanks Jim! Also, from looking at comments on here, some people are starting training soon? I still havent got a date for medical or recieved vetting, because its taking longer for me, is there less chance of being selected?

I believe you will only have problems if the BMI is over 30 and you are really overweight!

Last year I passed the medical at 14.5 stone and 5'10"..this time I'm down to 13 stone, so hope no problems this time.

    Regards.
