Goodcopbadcop, wouldnt panic yet, they intake throughout the year so there is time yet for medical etc.

As for anyone who has news they may/will be getting a place this year try www.muscletalk.co.uk its a bodybuilding forum but there is alot of info on interval training, weights, nutrition etc, well worth a look

I believe you will only have problems if the BMI is over 30 and you are really overweight!

Last year I passed the medical at 14.5 stone and 5'10"..this time I'm down to 13 stone, so hope no problems this time.

    Regards.

    Mickey2186:cool:

why did you not get in last time? hope you dont mind me asking what religion you are viewed as on their application process, or what your views are on the success rates of different religions?

I dont have any faith these days, atheist, but went to catholic primary school and a mixed grammar school. Alot of people keep saying how catholics get accepted easier, any truth in it?

Godcopbadcop, it depends where you are placed in the merit list and what side of the 50/50 you are in. Have you received any vetting forms yet?:)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 721 ✭✭✭goodcopbadcop

do your position on the merit list come from your score at the AC? Im on the RC side of the 50/50. No vetting forms yet, it took a long time for my AC results also, i think i took it later than most!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21 flip

If received a letter saying you had passed the AC, then you should phone recruitment on Monday moring and ask where you are placed? I believe up to 900 have been transferred into the merit list.

yeah i have been told by micky to call them and see. To be honest though i dont think people should need to ring up and ask, they should keep it to themselves where you are placed, or else automatically inform everyone

"If you don't ask, you'll never get." Trust me on this one.

one thing also about the medical, if i ever get word on it. will having a hernia in the past affect passing it? i had one last year but it has been operated on and been 100% ever since. Should i mention it or just leave it be.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 199 ✭✭MartinC2006

    Jim,

Nice to hear from you, I'll most likely defer but I'll still take you up on the coffee. It would be useful to get a glimmer of what I'm in for!
Glad all is going well, is it like you expected? Any surprises and so on?

    Goodcopbadcop,

    Congrats on getting this far.
The best advice has already been posted, don't panic and call to find out your placing. If your high enough the medical/vetting is only a waiting game (if all goes well). This intake is 440 with 50 a time so it may well take some months to get through everyone.

    Can anyone recommend any pre-reading?

    Martin.

You'll get a medical questionnaire and I would advise you to list everything. I can’t see it being a problem but better safe than sorry.

Yea mate loving it cant wait to get back up tomorrow and get stuck in!

As for the pre-reading I would not really know, on your SRN night you will get plenty of books to read including your definiton book which you are expected to know the first 5 or 6 word for word. This will be tested.

Well good luck, will not have a chance to get on this until next week

    Cheers

    Jim

    Jim,

    Is the food any good??

When I was there, the food was carb city and they had this unhealthy obsession with onions. From what I hear, nothing has changed that much.

As for the student bar, it's all bottles and cans. No draught anything.

Hi PSNI, good to hear from you!

Mickey, I find the food excellent, fry, cereal, fruit, toast for breaksfast but avoid alot if you have P.E first thing. You then get a large lunch, roast beef, chicken etc, salad and desert, it pretty much the same for dinner but i can say I enjoy the food. Even thou I eat as much as I can, i am usually starving before the next meal so I brought with me Protein drinks as I use the gym alot.

As PSNI said no pints, but bottles and cans of all the beers and alot of spirits. People just pour the cans into pint glasses.

Well im off now to get sorted for heading back up to garnerville, good luck with the rest of your application.

    Jim

    hi guys
at 21 and being a first timer i feel great to have been given a merit number of [snipped]. being RC im quietly confident. i havent got a record (not even a fine) so vetting should ncome back fine (i hope) and the medical should be fine. without realising ive gone from 14st to 13st 1 so bmi is fine too. had a checkup and everything else was great. just hope im not getting my hopes up too much.
quick question though guys. do you do a fitness test in the medical at all. need to make sure im totally prepared. recently took up weightsd and started running properly again feel fit.justwant to know if there are any special requirements

    justaquestion

I know it's easy for me to say but the medical is the only really easy part of this process. If you're healthy, you'll be grand.

Rang and asked for my pool number today, less than 100, which has given me cause for optimism, returned vetting forms just after Christmas... Still no date for medical, but the woman in recruitment said its just a case of fitting people in.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 54 ✭✭mic

Well done, if you pass the medical you're in.

mic(or anyone whos got in)did u receive word back about vetting before being offered a place or the same time,my merit pool number is high enough to get me in and i haven`t a letter about medical but on the phone girl said doctor had put i was fit for duty and letter will be in post soon , recruitment received my vetting forms on 20th nov but when i tried getting info they wont tell me anything just it takes time depending on info they need to look at

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 721 ✭✭✭goodcopbadcop

rang for pool number other day and they had never heard tell of me, and told me to ring consensia.

so i did. Didnt get much information from them either. he just said that i should wait to be contacted and that sometimes things slow down or happen at different times depending on scores etc

left me feeling a little worried, i have had no word of medical or vetting yet and loads others on here have

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 104 ✭✭uncleneilly

consensia haven`t told me a thing, every time i ask they just say they are running behind, all info i got was through ringing recruitment so it`s strange they`ve not heard of you

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 199 ✭✭MartinC2006

Uncleneilly, No I didn't get any word about medical/vetting. I got a phone call from the PSNI appointments informing me that there was a place for me in the next intake. I would think each intake will be similar with them calling people up in order (depending if they have passed medical/vetting) offering them a place.

Goodcopbadcop, you need to ring PSNI recruitment, Consensia will not know your merit pool number. They should be able to find your details using your UID I would think.

How about this for an interesting twist. A colleague of my partners who previously had the well done 4 week letter has had some bad news. In short her application is no longer being considered as the pass mark had to be raised due to the amount of applicants passing the AC.
I don’t know about anyone else but this seems to back up the theory that only people who they intend to recruit will be offered medical/vetting, with possibly some wastage?
With any luck any of you who are at that stage will be grand.

Good luck all and keep us updated!

    Martin.

Hi everyone! just found this thread last week and have been reading every page, why could i have not found it in oct  I rang recruitment today and was informed that i was placed around the 500 mark. Could anyone with experience from applying in the past tell me if i have any chance or should i forget it as i know they are taking 440. But would many fail the medical or pull out at the last min. I am from a catholic background, dont know if that would make much of a difference.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 721 ✭✭✭goodcopbadcop

Martin I called the recruitment number the other day that i was given on here, they didnt even seem to know what a merit pool number was but i was eventually put through to someone with some sense and they told me they had nothing for me.

this left me a bit worried so i rang consensia to make sure someone didnt lose my details and they would tell me nothing, i mean nothing. just said things are busy etc usual bull****.

Still no word on medical or vetting, seems like this process never comes to and end, would rather just be told no now than wait for months on end with hopes.

Martin, i received the 4 week letter (after AC) with the hope that i would get a letter about vetting or medical. However, got the dear john letter last friday telling me i did not score high enough. Wish they could have just sent a letter telling me then that i had passed but not well enough, instead of letting me suffer for 6 weeks!!

Anyway, I would say that anyone who has done a medical is likely to get offered a place (dependant on vetting of course). In saying that, my friend has done the medical and found out from the recruitment number that he is on the reserve list!!!

    Gaz1234,

I wish. I had my medical back in mid-December. Last week I got the "Dear John" letter. Ah well.

At least 440 of the people who scored higher than me in this campaign won't be competing in the next campaign.
