The system has changed...confirmed today with recruitment.

Also confirmed that they were not calling eveyone for vetting/medical, however they will be doing slightly more than they require to allow for 'wastage'.

Apparently approx 900 in pool, so I think if you are at the vetting/medical stage you are definately on the right track.

Looking back through this thread some people received a date for the medical in the middle of October, however some did their assessment in early November, maybe even later?

If the new system had been adopted how could the medicals start before the assessment centres where completed and evaluated.

Also, does anyone think there is a correlation to the date of your medical and how highly you are up the pool? I was around mid December so that doesn’t bode to well for me if that is the case.

At this stage I just want to know how I’ve done either way.

    How are you all feeling?

    Martin.

That boy Jim got through on another campaign I think. He must have been in one of the last squads to start.

I was about to ask Martin his second name but since he's called MartinC that blows my alphabetical order medical appointment theory out of the water haha.

I doubt it Martin. According to these boards some were receiving medicals (mid October) long before the final assessment centres had taken place (early - mid December).

It could be that if your assessment score passes a certain treshhold you are put forward for the vetting etc.

I was thinking the same thing Carlty, lets hope so!

Mic, Jim was 100% campaign 13, not 12.
As to wether or not he was used to top up campaign 12 is a different matter.

In any case my head is round the bend!

Good luck everyone and I'll be sure to post back with any news. Please do the same, I'm routing for us all :)

    Martin.

I don't believe everything I read on the interent ;) and I think his dates are far too quick for my liking.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 199 ✭✭MartinC2006

Like what you wish, it was clearly documented that the intakes started in January (thats when Jim starts). Believe none of what you hear and half of what you see etc.

    It’s pretty easy to work out that Jim was from 13 by;

    His knowledge of the AC/IST.
    The date he applied.
The dates he was called for medical/vetting.
    Why would he lie?

    Amongst other things ;)

    Martin.

Allow me to clear that one up:

    Jim was from campaign 13.

Wow that was easier than I thought..

Does anyone know what the drop out rate due to vetting and medicals is?

    Hi,

Any of ye know how long the vetting takes for ppl from the republic? I know there can be variances due to some ppl living abroad etc etc - but some sort of average? When I got my vetting done for the Reserves, it only took a couple weeks - but as that was in the Gardai's interests to get it sorted, I can see why there was some speed there. I'm assuming this work is outsourced by the PSNI to the Gardai, my being a resident down here.

Am wondering how long it will take - it's been nearly 3 months now for me.

Also - PSNI - if given an offer of a place, assuming they say 'start next month': are you given the option of deferring for another month or so, if there is another intake at that point? Just fom the point of view of having to give notice in work, etc (I promised them I wouldn't bail in the middle of a project )

    Lis

    Lisnsooz,

I think PSNI said it took him around a year from start to finish. I seem to recall 6 months of that being vetting but I'm not sure. However with the process being different this time hopefully its quicker for you.

I also recall PSNI saying you could defer your place with good reason.

    Martin.

Just rang recruitment there on the off chance and it seems they are dishing out the merit pool numbers.

Sub set 2, merit pool number was sub 50. What does sub set 2 mean! By the time I thought to ask she had already gone lol.

No result back for my vetting and medical though. The lady seemed to think the medical information should be back soon and the vetting takes 8-12 weeks. From that it would seem that Ethan was right and the vetting runs along side the medicals and doesn't lead to the medicals if you get me.

I hope sub set 2 doesn't mean reserve list!

I had a vague recollection of that being mentioned, but was hoping it was from someone in outer Siberia or other.... maybe I still have time to plan that holiday at Easter then :D

    Haha!

I'm such an idiot, it wasn't "sub set 2" "Subject to" In reference to the vetting/medicals.

Well I'm really chuffed, considering I was sure I'd messed part of the AC. Really really want the feedback on the vetting/medical now.

Good luck to you all and please keep us all informed.

    Martin.

    Hey there.

Yes you can defer, but every situation is dealt with on a case-by-case basis. They are likely to allow you the extra time to work out your notice with your current employer.

I really can't believe there are so many of you that have got so far.

    I wish you all well.

Ring again Martin? I rang and was ready to ask her that, but she just gave me a number in the 300s area. She said that each intake was 50 each - not sure if that is 50 per intake, or 50 each RC/non-RC - she got a bit cagey when I asked that if that was the case and doing the math could it be about 6-7 intakes when I go in.

Plus she said traditionally the GS take longer to vet alright *super sigh*

Talk about an endurance feat - maybe this is all to test our questioning and looking-for-alternate-answers skills :D

Just got an e-mail from Consensia, feedback is out at the end of February. In fact that is all the e-mail said 'End of February'.

Lol lisnosooz, they def like to keep their cards close to their chest.
Just rang recruitment sayin i hadnt heard anything from medical, they wouldnt even tell me about merit pool:confused:.
They did put me through to occ health though, the girl there said my file was still with the doctor, once the doctor makes a decision it is run by the cheif medical advisor before the result is given out, the cheif medical advidsor has apparently been off for a wee while and this could be where some hold ups are with people who have had to submit additional info.

Yeah I rang again, seems I'm just a silly billy :D

Hopefully they are taking 440 this time as suggested and all looks good for you. In any case even if your in the 300's on a 220 intake its still very possible to get in coming from a RC backround.

I beleive its actually 50 per intake and a new intake every 4 weeks?

    Martin.

That is such a big big weight off my shoulders.

    Congrats!

FYI It was brought to me addtional that letting others know your exact placing on a public forum wasn't a great idea!

    Just incase others follow suit.

Ethan so when's the chief back, he/she better get their arse in gear lol.

    Martin.

OK - so here are the permutations depending on what your merit number is (with 175 as an example):
    1. Determine what the number to the farthest 50 is (200)
    2. Divide 200 by 50 = 4
    3. Conclusion#1: you'll be in the 4th intake
    4. Oh dear - vetting not through yet and could take more than 4 months => Conclusion#2: you'll be called up once the vetting comes through
    5. Maybe the 174 ppl ahead aren't split 50/50 RC/non-RC
6a. Conclusion#3: you'll be in the 1-4th intake if there are less RCs and you are RC
6b. Conclusion#4: you'll be in the 4th+ intake if there are more RCs and you are RC
6c. Conclusion#5: you'll be in the 1-4th intake if there are less non-RCs and you are non-RC
6d. Conclusion#6: you'll be in the 4th+ intake if there are more non-RCs and you are non-RC
    7. what if she gave me the merit list order in relation to whether or not I'm RC/on-RC? It's doubtful as the merit list is supposed to incl all, but just in case... Conclusion#7: 175/25=7 => intake in 7 months
    8. What if ppl drop out or the medicals get delayed or, or, or...Conclusion#8: you'll be in before the 4th intake

Summary: Overall conclusion is that there is STILL no way of really telling when we will be going into an intake if we've been put on the merit list at some sort of favourable level
