Hi. I want a laptop that I can use to upload mp3s (my own) and photos
to the web wirelessly in cafes ect since I cannot do it at home.
(no broadband.. thanx eircom, its only been 7 years grrrrrr)

Other than that it needent be anything too special, maybe capable of a little bit of music making, veiwing dvds normal stuff.

This is the cheapest new laptop I could find in Ireland.

Will this do what I want ?
Any one know of any thing cheaper ?

That laptop is that price for a reason.

A Celeron processor, with 512Mb of RAM running Windows Vista? :D It will run like a pig. It will do what you want, but it will be very, very slow.

If you could get XP on it, that would be fine. But I would have serious reservations about recommending it running Vista.

I agree. Anyone who can put vista on a system with that spec and sell it to someone must have no conscience.

Why is it (and not just in your case, but with the vast majority of people) they just want a "basic" cheap laptop but when they pay the lowest possible price for the "best" option hey do nothing but bitch and moan about it being slow, sluggish and not doing what they want fast enough when indeed they got exactly what they paid for.
The machine you chose is cheap. Probably the cheapest one bar the EEE Asus laptop you wil find.As Tom and Almighty say it will be slow but it will do what you want. I have a feeling you'll be cursing not spending another €150-€200 and getting something that will last you longer and perform a lot better.

From the laptops direct spiel for that machine:
A brilliant 15.4-inch widescreen plus Intel Celeron M processor ensures maximum performance for both on the road and in the office.

How can they get away with saying stuff like that? *shakes head*

I know someone with the laptop posted in the OP and it runs fine tbh.All it's used for is Firefox and iTunes. It's Vista Basic optimised for 512MB RAM. I personally wouldn't buy one but some people really don't do any more than internet/music/instant messaging.

Watch the Dell Laptop Bargain thread here.

Every now and then an extremely affordable machine will be posted (was a e360 laptop highlighted the other day). Most importantly, some of Dells machine's let you pick Windows XP instead of Vista. You really, really don't want to be running Vista on a low-spec machine.

The Deal deals usually expire quickly though, so you'd want to be checking the thread fairly often.
