ERD Commander type of tool.

ERD Commander is a great recovery tool for a dead pc or bsod.

but you got to buy a licence for the full use of it .
does anyone know of a tool that does a full recovery for free.

Knoppix Linux live bootable CD would be something similar to what you are looking for.

When you have a copy of the CD burned, l=plug ina a usb key or external Hard drive into the pc aswell, boot the machine up and load knoppix. Once its loaded try transferring the files from the PC's hard drive to either the usb or external drive.

If you have a 2nd PC, take out the HDD and slave it into the other.

With a BSOD, could be bad memory or other hardware issue and the Linux live CD or ERD commander also won't load fully.
