It may be connected to the router does not mean it can get out to the internet

When you connected yesterday did safari crash

Try connecting to iTunes let it recognize the phone then disconnect then do the jailbreak

Bring a laptop with you to the hotspot see if that can access the Internet

Hi people , im currently in new york , going home 2mor evening , going to purchase i-phone 2mor . Been to t-mobile charging 800 dollars for unlocked phone (cutting sim card and other changes?) , at & t said 400 dollars for their i-phone which they told me was incompatible with the euro and irish market . Which is the better option buying an unlocked phone or a locked phone which i could unlock at home if its not 2 complicated ?????????????????????

800USD for an unlocked phone is a rip. I'd suggest you buy new from AT&T / Apple like I did. I have my phone jailbreaked, which means I can use it like an iPod touch. Before I can use it as a phone I'm waiting until an unlock is released, people speculate it'l be done around 15th January.

    Hey Guys,

I got my (firmware 1.1.1) iPhone yesterday, top notch, phone & sms text messaging works no bother. However, when I go to launch Youtube or Safari I get the following messages:

'Could not activate EDGE', followed by: 'Select a wifi network'.

What do I have to do to enable Youtube & Safari?

Cheers & happy new year to all:)

Your answer's in the last few pages of this thread. Stealthsim or similar is required.

do you have wifi if yes connect to that if not then what network are you on if you do not have a data package then using edge will cost you a fortune

Edge settings are entered in settings/general/network/edge

    Hi Cdebru,

Thanks for the reply, and thanks even more for the tip about Edge. I'm on a really old price plan with O2 so I wouldn't have any data package set up. When I turn wi-fi on it connects to a pre-installed network. So for now, I leave wi-fi switched off.

Think I'll go about setting up wi-fi around the house so I can enjoy the functionalities of this little gem of a phone without the cost issues. Might as well make the most of the broadband!

    Cheers.

quick question will the iphone always favour the wi-fi connection when doing internet stuff if you are in an area where you have both EDGE and wi-fi coverage?

yes as long as it can connect to wifi it will do that in preference to edge

If you are concerned about the phone connecting to edge when you don't want it to there is an app on the installer called services which gives you an on/off button for edge/Bluetooth/wifi/ssh from the homescreen very handy

have a 1.1.2 i-phone unlocked with the stealth chip . Have problem with keyboard dialing out it wont let me type more than 1 digit without reverting back to main screen , also it shows i have sms messages but when i go to sms screen its blank , i have also rang the phone but there is no indication of a call until i hang up and then it registers on the main screen in red:confused: . Any help would be great .

i can recommend the serivces application, i found my credit being used up too quickly with edge taking preference to wifi, especially when the wifi signal dropped or was poor. so i have switched it off, now safari only connects where there is wifi.

Go to installer > 1.1.2 Tweaks > Install iWorld. When installed and restarted open the iworld app and select Ireland from the list of countries. You should now be able to dial any number correctly.:D

just some news for all those 1.1.2 ootb owners waiting for a sw unlock.
the new 1.1.3 firmware has been leaked to the iphone dev team,
it does contain a baseband upgrade,
so the devs are working on it and they should be able to use it to
come up with an unlock solution for 1.1.2 ootb iphones.

It would be, sim unlocking and activating / jailbreaking is unrelated.

basically it is a little device that bypasses sim lock on 1.1.2 oob iphones it is a little device you stick on top of your sim card and then put it into phone works a treat mate. have a look on ebay at it user name . " ronanom"
irish sellers works perfectly. or just google it

No, you are the eBay seller "ronanom" and you're just advertising here. We're not stupid y'know, especially when you PM me posing as the seller.

    You mean this ?

I think we can safely say that ronanom = zaccoyne (same poor use of English gives you away easily mate) ;)

    Advertising is for adverts.ie.

On a lighter note and by bizarre, ironic coincidence, a message from PHD:

    "Hey Guys,

As you all know the 1.1.3 Firmware has been leaked, it may not be a final version but never the least it has been leaked. After a discussion with a member of the iphone dev there is 1 good news but 2 bad news, Good news it does indeed have a Baseband/bootloader upgrade BUT the bad news apparrently apple have done a very good job with this update, it is encrypted with 1024bit key, which is not going to be very easy to crack could take a long while. Also even looking at it they dont even know if it will be possible to get the secpack from it, as i said Apple have done a very good job with this one. I will keep everyone updated on the Dev teams process during the week.

    Dan"

Between this admission and the evidence presented by the other users, it's a safe bet that you're a spammer/shill. Banned.

    How did your jailbreak go

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

    went swimmingly :p.

got a bit impatient installing appsnap that i thought it wasn't going to restart. i left it do it's thing and it was perfect.

despite all the bad things i've said about this phone in the past, what it has on it now more than makes up for it's shortfalls.

now only to get my stealthsim and i can make calls :p

    well Stealthsim finally arrived

Now the phone part sends the iphone back to the home menu anytime i click a number on the keypad, or select SMS from the home menu. It will call using address book but won't let me answer a call

    Anyone seen this before?

Guess i'll have to restore it and jailbreak again? any handy links to doing this?
