then something tells me my team of the season would look like:

    1. Reina
    2. Carragher
    3. Carragher
    4. Carragher
    5. Carragher
    6. Gerrard
    7. Gerrard
    8. Gerrard
    9. Gerrard
    10. Torres
    11. Torres

Youve got a team thats slow at the back and cant pass.

And its finishing ability is debatable.

Too many tough calls, so I made two teams:

    James

    Laursen
    Ferdinand
    Gallas
    Clichy

    Ronaldo
    Fabregas
    Gerrard
    Petrov

    Torres
    Santa Cruz

    Green

    Sagna
    Vidic
    Distin
    Evra

    Bentley
    Elano
    Flamini
    Young

    Adebayor
    Keane

So Carragher is slow? Gerrard cant pass and Torres cant finish?

Not sure wats objective about that tbh mate
Potential is a factor in every Liverpool signing for the last 15 years.

    Cheap scousers

failing to see the objectivity there too

    Gallas
    Evra

    Ronaldo
    Fabregas
    Gerrard
    Hleb

    Gerrard
    Petrov

how would that midfield lineup DSB?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,951 ✭✭✭DSB

It probably wouldn't work tactically really. I just didn't think any striker bar Santa Cruz really deserved a place. If I was to make a more tactically considered team the midfield would probably be

    Young Flamini Fabregas Ronaldo

    Gerrard

    Santa Cruz

    Torres?Keane?Adebayour?Anelka?

I'd have all them on level pegging if not higher than Santa Cruz tbh!

Still undecided about Torres, Keane is the product of a team who attack so much to try cover up the fact that they can't defend (don't actually think he is any good at all), Adebayor maybe actually, Anelka has been pretty good and scored alot of goals but again undecided. All pretty good players (except Keane) but not sure if any of them have been Team Of The Year quality except for maybe Adebayor.

I like Santa Cruz because he has scored alot of goals in a team that aren't particularly attacking and on plenty of occasions he has been up front on his own. Like his attitude too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

    fair enough.

maybe being a little harsh on Keane, but havent been overly "keen" on him myself over the years (see wat i did there?!:)), have to admit though, my opinion of him is changing by the week. just wont stop scoring.

Has to be put into perspective with the sort of football the team are playing though. 6-4 isn't a result a manager should be pleased with in my opinion. 3 points yeah but perform like that against a team that can defend and you'll be ripped apart. Put anyone half decent up front in that team and they'll be scoring for fun. Keane is shown up as the player he is when he has to play with less impressive service.

    fair enough.

and Torres is the real deal by the way.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,951 ✭✭✭DSB

We'll see. Has shown plenty of potential to be top class but only in patches.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

well if he plays "in patches" like he has thus far, he'll be on about 30 goals for the season in his first year :)

    That'll do me.

Going to bed to listen to Pneumonia by Whiskeytown. Goodnight!

Dunne had Torres in his pocket. He's yet to prove himself in my opinion. My team would be thus...

    (G) James
    (D) Evra
    (D) Dunne
    (D) Ferdinand
    (D) Sagna

    (M) Ronaldo
    (M) Fabregas
    (M) Gerrard
    (M) Petrov

    (F) Keane
    (F) Santa Cruz

    For me:

    James

    Sagna, Gallas, Dunne, Evra

    Ronaldo, Cesc, Hleb, Petrov

    Keane, Torres

I dont think any keeper has really stood out and strangely enough I dont see any Chelsea players, Drogba only for he was out too much.

As for Keane playing for an attacking team, that certainly doesnt explain his goal tally, Rooney, Torres play for more attacking teams he is simply on fire this year, infact for most of 2007. Some of his goals this season and last season have been top draw. Shame he couldnt bring it to international level

Can't see what Carragher has done to merit his place tbh.

GK - Can't really decide. James I guess. Don't see what Reina has done compared to VDS really.

LB - Evra or Clichy. I'd go with Evra personally
CB - Gallas without a doubt has been amazing
CB - Ferdinand without a doubt has been amazing
    RB - Sagna

I honestly can't see how people wouldn't pick Ferdinand and Gallas, I really can't understand it

    RW - Ronaldo
    LW - Petrov

    obviously

    CM - Fabregas
    CM - Gerrard

Special note must go out to Anderson who has been immense, would certainly be my 3rd choice

    ST - Abedyour
    ST - Keane

Can't say I think Torres deserves a spot ahead of these two. Maybe if it was in all comps, but in terms of the league, these two have been immense.

    Arbeloa?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

In all fairness, Arbeloa was immense at the start of the season for Liverpool.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

He has been excellent. But most of the season he has been at LB i think.

Think i'd give the nod to Sagna
