Bargain Laptop...

Hi I plan to buy myself a new laptop in the next few days. I'm worried I'm going to miss out on a few killer deals! Bargains seem few and far between this year... Basically I'm looking for a laptop purely for web browsing, word processing and the basics. However I'm concerned that Celeron/Sempron will limit its abilities…

Hi I plan to buy myself a new laptop in the next few days. I'm worried I'm going to miss out on a few killer deals! Bargains seem few and far between this year...

Basically I'm looking for a laptop purely for web browsing, word processing and the basics. However I'm concerned that Celeron/Sempron will limit its abilities in the coming year or two, so I don't want to underspec the laptop either!

Any advice / price crashes / vouchers / codes/ etc...?

Is Dell as bad as some say? Oh, and I'm looking for the longest battery life possible.

if you want battery life..look for a centrino processor.

you can get a good Toshiba a200 with 2gb ram, centrino (cant remember speed) and 120gb hdd.

ring your local electronic shops and ask if they stock it. its around 799.

Cheers Zod that looks like a really good deal. I'm very tempted...unfortunately my budget doesn't quite stretch that far:) I'm hoping to stay around the e500 mark if at all possible...:(

If your budget is only e500 then you'll be rather restricted.

Expect a low end screen (quality wise, not size, it'll be pretty much guaranteed to be a low end 15.4 inch), power guzzling processor and a neck breaking weight.

If you scrape the barrel, expect muck.

That's a HP G6033EA AMD 64 2048/80 VHP

€605 (about €630 delivered).

It's big, it's heavy, but it's got an AMD 64 bit processor, 2GB of RAM and an 80GB hard disk - and it's a HP so it's well built.

I have my eye on a dell Vostro (E-Value code 123-N1210001). Add a dual core and it comes to E470

Or I just bought an asus eee from an american seller on ebay. The 2g version worked out at €230 and that included shipping.

watch out fro Vat an dDuty coming from outside euro land. 14 % duty on electronics and then 21 % on top of that
