According to www.o2.co.uk, there is one O2 store in Newry.

Address: Unit 6, Buttercrane Shopping Centre, NEWRY, Northern Ireland, BT35 8HJ.

    Phone: 04830 262700.

Yeh, I just seen that too. ;)

Frank@work, I bought 4 of them in that store last weekend. Used my halifax credit card and my best nondescript accent and the sales assistant was only too happy to sell me the phones. Be confident and have a postcode learned off just incase. :D

Remember though there is no software unlock for these newest iPhones yet. Basically all you get at the moment is iPod Touch functionality. Happy Christmas shopping.

There's an app in installer that fixes that bug completely.
It's called "phone no. to name fix".

Can't wait another day sitting here on these iPhones. Just ordered some cards from iphonesimfreer.com

Will let you all know how they work out.

In installer, make sure you have the source "Unlock.no"
the exact name of it is "phone# to name fix". I forget which section it is in but u should find it under "all packages".

Nice find. At US$89.99 it's reasonably priced too, IMO. Still, in Feb '08 things may be very different for the Iphone.

    Right lads,

I'm new to all of this. Where is the best place to buy a fully functional iPhone which I can just insert my current O2 SIM card here in the republic and away you go, at the best price?

    Thanks.

eBay (from USA). Avoid Firmware version 1.1.2 OTB.

Yeah, that much I had already picked up, having looked at ebay. It seems there are a few available running firmware version 1.1.1, which is what is needed?

What about that shop up in the north people mentioned here? What firmware is on the one's they're selling?

    Has anybody purchased form unlockthatiphone.com?

    Thanks.

That would be an official O2 UK shop in the North. Price wise, it may work out slightly cheaper than importing from the US via eBay. But, these are 1.1.2 OTB. No software unlock.. yet.

Yes, people have. Recently, people have also been find themselves in situations where they've paid but not received contact, for so long they've been considering legal action. It seems that unlockthatiphone.com's stocks are 1.1.2 OTB, so again, no software unlock at the present time.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Can't some genius just develop the unlock for 1.1.2 at some stage today?:D:D

Looks like it's back to ebay then for a 1.1.1 version.

    Wish me luck:)

At the moment nothin can be done untill Apple release the new firmware, If Apple Update the bootloader then there will be a unlock within minutes if they dont(which they prob wont) the no unlock.

Is there anywhere that isn't out of the way in New York that you can just walk into a shop and buy an iPhone?
Do you need to sign up to a contract on purchase or do you sign up afterwards?

Finally, if it's store-bought will it be unlockable? I hear a load of reports that 1.2 can/can't be unlocked, no idea what the story is here?

Is there any other way I could make use of somebody going to the states to buy an iPhone, better just get something shipped from eBay?

Guys can someone tell me if I have a UK iphone and I use a stealth or turbo card the phone will work perfectly and further firmware upgrades will continue to work as well?

If all you need to install is bootloader isn't it worth buying the card than messing around with the iphone or is it as easy as that

(yes I still to pick up an iphone for someones Xmas prezzie )

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,658 ✭✭✭PowerHouseDan

We wont know weather or not they will actually work untill the new firmware is released, As i said myself and unlockthatiphone are hoping to be able to supply a affordable unlock solution for otb iphones in the next few days. The thing is with the turbo sim they are very expensive and can only be bought on ebay at the moment.

Nice device, but just a thought on it. When you get your long and lat coordinates and pipe it to google maps, won't you need to be connected to wifi for the maps to load, or at least EDGE. So if you are lost in the wilderness its not much good unless you have a map with you or is there a way to preload some google maps on your iphone device?
