The OP has asked why is the pizza so expensive ? (or words to that effect)

We've had a lot of guesses about the cost of ingredients . How much do they pay a dude to deliver the .... ****e pizza , crap pizza , need a chain saw to cut through the crust pizza etc.

    No serious question

How much do they (average) pay a guy to post a pizza . I read somewhere that most outlets in Ireland employ only owner bikers/car owners

When I did it it was €3.00 per hour and €3.00 per drop. You could make €25.00 - €30.00 per hour. From a costs point of view the payment to the bike was the same for a small pizza as for a bagfull of pizzas.

Take away pizza hasnt been the same to me over here since I lived in Boston:(

My local Pizza place Natalies was just amazing.

If I do feel like a pizza over here though it has to be Dominos. I liked that Meteor pizza they had out as a promotion a while back. It was a really mantastic pizza.

A friend worked for a while in the local pizzeria.
He told me that the ingredients for one 12" pizza cost 60 cent.
The pizza was sold for ~€12.

I would imagine that chains get their ingredients cheaper too.

I would say BS to that unless your friend was talking about a margarita.

On a side not it is more expensive for pizza hut to supply a cup with lid and straw then it is to fill it with a soft drink:eek:

More money is made on sides then there is on the pizzas themselves.

I smell a market opportunity in this.

Dragon's Den here I come. The €4 pizza company.

You heard it here first :D

I think you may be on to something . BUT i would call it the 4E SLICE OR PORTION for "meals on wheels"

The nicest not-frozen pizza I've had in Dublin is from Il Fornaio in the IFSC. Wow, it's gorgeous. I think that's the only branch in Ireland (might be one other), and the only other ones are in Italy and the US. Fabulous pizza, around 13e-15e though for a medium.

What's your opinion got to do with the cost of pizza In Ireland ?

    COME ON BACK HOMI

Favourite frozen pizza by far is the Chicago Town take away style pizza. The closest any pizza comes to Dominos but only stocked by Superquinns :(

    +1

Chicago Town Pizza's are the best frozen pizzas hands down. They have actually brought out a few new pizzas too which include one with a crust that is stuffed with sauce!!! Btw they are available in some bigger Dunnes & Tescos.

Plus they are less the €5!

    It's even worse in England.

I live in Bournemouth and ordered a Medium pizza with 3 toppings and a bottle of coke last week and it cost me the equivalent of €23.

    Scandalous.

They'll not get my money again I tell ya.

I was inspired by this thread when doing my shopping yesterday and I bought a couple of the Chicago Town pizzas with the sauce filled crust and they are the best frozen pizza I've had. Put them into a delivery box and slice them up properly and you'd never know! If they made that a cheese filled crust they'd be unbeatable.

Wow, the pretentious pizza cognoscenti are out today. Bottom line - pizzas are crappy junk food.

bistro bianico pizza in sligo, absolutly beauiful pizza, you can see them preparing the pizzas through the restrarant window in a stonewood oven, all pizzas are 14inch i think, cramed with toppings, nice thin crust, already considering getting one for this evening

No. It's the tesco 75 cent one you want.

    Students, take note.
This is probably the nicest thing you will get on the little money you have.

I have to agree here, their pepperoni pizza's are just the sex.
Also i'd have to recommend the pizzas that you can get in the hot food in dunnes in blanch (im not sure if other places do it) for about 3 euro you get a pizza made up in front of you and its god damn delicious :D

Dominos pizza is the best - expensive but so worth it!

Don't like Four Star or Apache - the leftovers don't heat up well. At least Dominos taste the same when you reheat it!

Their chicken strippers and honey and mustard dips are the best!

A friend of mine works in the dublin one, on occasion this means free pizza. SCORE!

    Godfathers Pizza

    9'' Pizza + 4 toppings
1 Bag of chips + dip
    2 cans

    €15

    Absolutely gorgeous.

Dominos and Four Star are shíte in comparison.

Godfathers pizza is a culinary travesty. Unless of coarse stodgy dough and greasy chips are your thing. If you want a good pizza go to Bistro Bianconi and get a Michelangelo. It will cost you an arm and a leg, though.

If you let a Chicago Town frozen pizza thaw out you'll see the difference. It turns back into dough. I didn't have room to put it into the freezer section yesterday so I put it into the fridge part. This evening it's dough. That's a good sign of freshness, but damn hard to get into the oven when all you have is a wire rack to hold it on.

I love dominos, get it about once a week and have no qualms about the price as I enjoy the food, the delivery is usually nice and quick and I've never had a problem with them.

Made my own pizza today :) Only cost me a 5er (fair enough, some of the ingredients had to be bought at another stage, but were leftover/can be used quite often).

    flour
    yeast
    cheese
sausages --- were leftover from fry
    rashers--- this morning
    onion
    garlic
    tomatoes
    chilli pepper
    =already in the house

    tins peeled tomatoes
    peppers
    tuna
    =I bought today

Took about an hour because I had to leave the dough for ages to expand a bit. Was tasty but the base wasn't thick enough so it fell apart a bit.

You can buy pre-made pizza bases in Superquinn that take a lot of hassle out of doing up a homemade pizza.
