    http://www.independent.ie/national-news/atm-scam-duo-told-to-leave-the-country-1243987.html

its an absolute disgrace that they were not jailed.
these people are allowed to just leave the country.

would an irish citizen be allowed to simply leave the country after been convicted of a crime ?

this country is way too soft and is seen as a soft touch by these sort of people

we are been taken for a ride

    cop on ireland

Well, the other option is to throw them into our over crowded prisons and give them free rent and food for a few years.

Better to get them to fu<k off home then have the taxpayer spend €xx,000 on putting them up for the next three years.

so we just allow them to go home with no punishment ?
and anyone else who wants to come here and scam us is welcome.
if they are caught its no problem, we will let them go home also

come to ireland, rip us off, no risk

I would assume that they came here seeking asylum. Sending them back to where they came from is fairly bad punishment in my eyes. You lock them up over here, they'll be out in 3 years and scamming people again. Deport them, hopefully they'll never get back into the country.

Bring back corporal punishment - tar and feather them and they'll think twice about doing it again.

Wow, a good looking Romanian woman. Can we start a petition for her to stay? It worked for Kunle.

it happened a year and a half ago...imagine what other scams these scumbags have carried out since??????

They'll go missing, won't be deported and won't be found. If by some chance they are deported, they'll be back within a year.

if ireland wasnt seen as such a soft touch they probably would not have chosen to come to here in the first place

we need to be tougher on crimes they commit as a deterrent to stop others coming here to try it

This is the best punishment - deportation. It should be for life though, not just 10 years.

While I agree that it is a good thing that these scum will (hopefully) be gone from our shores, what the hell kind of deterrent is this for other Romanians who are thinking of doing this in Ireland?

IMO they should have been deported immediately.
21 days for them to collect up their bits and pieces, gather the rest of the money they scammed and move to another part of the city.

TBH, they should have been detained for 21 days while preparations were made to deport them while seizing any assets they may have to recover the money they stole.

Coming from Romania? I doubt it.

This does set a very dangerous precedent. I'd like to see them serve at least a little jail time before deportation or else I don't see how there is a deterrant.

    Spot on.

And its not as if they are being kept in custody awaiting the next flight to Bucharest.
They are given 3 weeks to make their own way to romania.

    Probably back in 6 months...

(would it surprise anyone if they were allowed to keep the cash they took :p )

They should have been locked up. This is giving a bad message. Come to Ireland, commit crimes and if you are caught go home again.

    i couldnt agree more
    its ridiculous

if an irish citizen was convicted of this crime would they be allowed to fly off into the sunset ?

im not racist, but this country is ruined by this type of scum entering by the boat load everyday, ireland needs to close its boarders with immediate effect or else it will perish and go down the toilet like england has

as far as i was aware they are supposed to claim asylum in the first available country.
not cherry pick their way across europe until they find a soft touch like ireland

Yep, if not sooner. I always follow my laser card in restaurants, shops etc. The cloning boxes are so small they can be hidden close to the till, normally underneath. The cashier normally gets about £50 per swipe for doing it.

Another one to look out for is "shoulder surfing". While you are typing in your PIN number at the ATM, someone else is noting it. They store it in their mobile phone while another one dips you soon after, then it's off to the ATM to empty your account & fill their pockets and if you are dipped just before midnight they will withdraw the max and then revisit the ATM just after midnight to withdraw the max again thus hitting you with a double whammy.

Predominately done by Romanians in London. No reason why they don't practice it here as well.

Knowing how they operate in London, the money is immediately transferred into an envelope & posted more or less straight away to Romania or a London address. This ensures if they are stopped by plod there is no money about their person.

The level of knowledge of EU politics on this board is shocking. As Eu citizens since Jan 1 this year, Romanians don't have to claim asylum anywhere in Europe. They are free to travel anywhere in the EU although they still need a work permit to work here.

the offence took place in june 2006
so i would imagine they decided ireland was a good target, and they were right

Come on green, that's not how a justice system should operate. We're talking about a non-violent crime, where the main victims are ultimately the banks (and debinhams). I would be very surprised if an irish citizen with no previous record got more than a suspended sentance. Why should this pair recieve special treatment. If we're going to 'make an example of em' why not just hang them?

So we should block everyone from coming to our country so as we can prevent a minority of scumbags from getting in. Not every immigrant is a criminal.
