I kinda of expected this in AH tbh, but I just wanted to throw it out their because I know i'm not alone. I'm not so disgusted that i'm going to write in or do anything about it other than this rant here.

Whenever someone posts a thread disagreeing with an ad there will always be the clichéd "any advertising is good advertising", "I find this ironic because..." and "its only an ad so..."

But i'm glad there are others that agree with me. I guess I am affected by personal situation, my wifes grandmother died there very recently and this ad actually upset her for its callousness.

.. and I know Meteor didn't create this society of materialism, but its that we live in a country where an ad like this will actually work.

Its just an ad. Nobody (or I suppose... the majority) would actually refuse their granny entry to a house for an inevitable crap present.

Besides - what did THEY get HER?

This ad is horrible, i didnt know who it was for but i find it really upsetting and switch the tv channel over everytime it comes on. Have we all become that materialist?

As someone posted above, I actually AVOID meteor due to their annoying advertising. I don't know if the ad was offensive other than to taste. I just found the whole ad distasteful. Their whole campaign I find annoying and always have "Hoy, this is Mandy from Tufty's Lapdancing club.........: Jesus. Right down to their jingle. Grrrrrrrr
    ........

...................... and don't get me STARTED on TV3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gaahhhh

ahhhhhh That feels much better. Thanks OP :)

Complain to the BCI should you feel strongly about it.

Its an ad, which got you talking. Job done.

What's the BCI? If people are that offended, here you go.

That new bloody guinness ad and its hype is more annoying, I'm sick of it by now. Don't know how they wasted so much money on it.

Yeah i know the Ad is a joke and not meant to be taken seriously, but i really did think 'god what a horrible ad' when i saw it, i wouldnt go so far as to say i was offended, i was just saddened. Its like, is this what christmas is about now? If youre not getting a 3G meteor phone with built in can opener and porn downloader you can just **** off?
Guinness ad with yer man outside the customs house FTW. Meteor greed merchants ad FTL.

+1 that Guinness ad is great.

I find it Ironic that the Original poster seems to think that an old woman refused entry to a party is sickening... even if its only an ad...
Then on the other hand, has an sig ad for a TV show where the main character is a serial killer and cuts open his victims with all sorts of interesting tools :D

Don't get me wrong.. i love Dexter... its a brilliant show... i just think there is soemthing ironic about this post at the same time :D
Dexter only kills people who deserve it. I'd love to see him get his hands on the people responsible for this worthless wankshaft of an ad.

I get free txts to every meteor customer when i top up 20euro. I also get 15euros free credit at the start of every month. Brilliant reception too where I am, and their customer service has always been helpful to me. Far more so than vodafone for my parents previously.

So they have a crappy ad, but as far as I'm concerned, they have the best service in Ireland.

I feel horrified when I see any adverts.

I hope you have a pop-up blocker in that case.

Unfortunately this is just another example of the ageist pricks who seem to run advertising in Ireland.

Some chav with a big bit of bling for a present would be totally acceptable now.

For all we know, that granny could have got away with murder or child abuse in the past... if Dexter finds out, being turned away from a party in an ad will be the least of her worries :D

Anyone seen the new Meteor Ad.

The one where the old woman is invited to a christmas party and brings the hosts a tea cosy.
ah, NOW it makes sense, only saw it once and i thought they said a teapot, and i was like '...a teapot? isnt that a bit flat for a teapot?'

Well i think this add is good and it makes me laugh :):):)

I kind of felt sorry for the old woman at first but then when she pulled down the decoration I thought it was funny. (Ah you can stuff your turkey!)

My granny died a few years ago and her birthday is around Christmastime but I didn't get upset when I saw the ad.

To all those saying that OAPs don't have enough money to buy expensive gifts, my granny is loaded and still managed to buy us things we would never ever use. (Until my aunt took over!)

I'm not affected by advertising. Sure, I like some ads and hate others, but I actually take the time to find out about services from other places, which is why I am a Meteor customer.

Nice one Janeybabe.... you have the intelligence to pick a service provider, not based on advertising, but by research on service and price etc.
I am a meteor customer too, although i go 5 months between €20 top ups sometimes due to using my work mobile during the day. I doubt they would miss me if a switched :D

    Me too, hate the ad.

Just because a stereotype exists doesn't mean it should be encouraged!

Plus shame on meteor its got a bad enough rep as it is! As a marketing tool... questionable.. i'm a meteor customer who is happy with the service and had no problems but now ..... bow my head in shame. I personally don't want to be associated with them because of this ad... previous ads were crap... but this is rubbish! And doesn't reflect well on meteor customers... we've a bad enough rep as it is! :o

Why do we have a bad 'rep' though? If anything its their customer service is the best in the country (I have never experienced O2's customer service, my parents have had problems with vodafone and anytime my girlfriend had to ring 3, she was put through to some Indian fella, whom she couldn't understand a word he said).

Anytime I have had a problem, I get in contact with their customer service and they've always sorted it out for me. Plus, with the majority of my friends being meteor too, I save a fortune on credit with their free txts with 20€ a month.

That's the best bit of news ever. It just shows you that if 99% of people think your ad is offensive **** (rather than the usual 75% for Meteor) then a change can be made.
