Ok thinking bout trading my warwick for a musicman sterling. Just wndering what the tonal differences between the 2 are, ill obviously play before i trade but still id like to know if its in the same ballpark etc cause the stingray i played was like sound melting in my ears haha.

The Sterling has the Stingray sound with the addition of a 5 way switch which does all sorts of coil tapping, serial/parallel and phase trickery. It is definitley the more versatile instrument. Also worth bearing in mind is the neck size, the Stingray is wider at the nut like a Precision bass, the Sterling has a smaller Jazz sized neck. There are 2 and 3 band EQ versions of both, many Stingray players prefer the 2 band EQ.

If you're thinking of these, also consider a Lakland 44-02/55-02 which does the Stingray thing as well, but has a Jazz pickup too, so you can get the Stingray tone, Fender 60s and 70s Jazz tone, P tone, pretty much any tone you can think of is in there.

Thanks j but im getting it on a trade so no options of different purchases. Getting one with 3 band eq, as long as it gets somthing pretty ballpark to the stingray ill be a very happy camper. Dunno what it is bout the mm tone its like its trebly and cuts through yet you dont have to put mids up and lose your tone and you still get all the low end. Prefer the jazz neck too, so as long as this is similar ill be owning the bass of the gods by sunday and my bass rig will finally be comple(yes i know i said this 2 years ago but this time i mean it, well bar a synth pedal). mwahahahahaha
