The 4th and 5th digits in the serial number are the week numbers. So it should go like 7V741SR... and that is week 41.

It only took 15 minutes to unlock as well, just make sure you have wifi access.

    Cheers :)

Can anyone help please. I'm almost there with unlocking the 1.1.2 week 47 iPhone but the 1.1.2 jailbreak doesnt seem to be able to connect to my iPhone. I tried restarting the pc /reconnecting the phone but nothing seems to work. Do I need to check the "install ssh" check box? What is ssh? I tried it anyway and it made no difference unfortunately.

How do I know if the phone is jailbroken anyway?

1.1.2 can't be unlocked yet. If you are using jailbreakme.com to jailbreak then that won't work either cause it's for 1.1.1 iphones only.

Jailbroken does not mean unlocked. You cannot unlock a 1.1.2 out of the box unit yet. Once the next update is released, you will be able to. You can unlock 1.1.2 but only if you upgrade from 1.1.1 or 1.0.2

anyone have an educated guess if it would be ok to get a 1.1.2 version in the states if I cant get a 1.1.1 in the hope of an update to the unlocking software?

Or is too big a risk and I'd be left with something(s) I wont be able to use??..

    :rolleyes::rolleyes:
I never said it couldn't be jailbroken- just not through the jailbreakme.com method which only works with 1.1.1
As the other poster said, jailbroken DOES NOT MEAN UNLOCKED.

Did you use the jailbreakme.com site?

Yes, I used jailbreakme.com. My friend and I both got iPhones from the states, week 47's with version 1.1.2 firmware and the new bootloader. It took us about six hours to finally get it working. I had some trouble jailbreaking 1.1.2. His you tube worked straight off after jailbreaking whereas mine didnt. I eventually got mine working using a patch, I've pasted the link for this above. The only reason we can think of was the 1.1.2 firmware jailbreak software. On his laptop, when unzipped, the jailbreak software was something like 50.33mb whereas on mine it was only 49.0 ish. I thought we downloaded from the same source but something seems to have gone wrong. I had to connect my iPhone to his PC and it jailbreaked using his software then no problem. Its all sorted now though. The only Many of the instructions out there seem to be unclear when you're attempting to get your phone working. After you mess up a few times and start again you get a better idea as to what is going on.

A few tips, - you're better off keeping the momentum going when unlocking cause if you 're not quick enough with the next step the phone can go into a different screen.

    - if your screen goes black while you're unlocking/jailbreaking, the screen may just have gone into a kind of screen saver mode. To get out of this simply touch the sleep/snooze (On/Off) button at the top of the phone and the screen will light up.

    - with iBrickr, you dont have to downgrade to 1.0.2 so if given the option on iBrickr, the chances are that you're doing the wrong thing. If you do, you'll still be able to restore 1.1.1 from itunes.

    - Dont forget when restoring using itunes to press shift on your keyboard while pressing restore on iTunes. This allows you to select which firmware version you want to upload from your pc. you will have downloaded the appropriate firmware version as per instructions. If you dont press shift while restoring, it will not give you the option of selecting the firmware version to upload from your pc.

Sorry if I've used incorrect terminology, I'm not really a techhie. Hopefully these tips will help people and not confuse people.

OK Time for a little review on my Iphone set up and user experience so far. Just a little info on me using the device and also some resources that may be of use to others.
Links to anything i have used will also be included.
    Screenshots included.

Unwrapping the unit from its box was a pleasure missed by myself as my dear wife did that in New York in order to get it back to ireland.

Unit switched on and looked the business, sleek case design and the screen is the best i have seen on any mobile device i have ever had in my hands.
First order of business Jailbreak and unlock.
2 processes to work through. Both a piece of cake after i verified the unit was 1.1.1 and was ripe for messing with. After 15-20mins messing on the Wifi / Jailbreakme.com & anysim, I had my O2 Sim card in and was making calls, very easy process and no Mac or Pc required.

Next up Installing various bits of software in order to start to modify the unit. All types of software like Installer3.0, BSDSubsystem, OpenSSH, Dropcopy, Screenshot, Sendsong, Summerboard(Themes), ISwitcher(Themes(more on this later)). All very easy to install via Wifi (make sure you switch the unit to Never Sleep before you start to mess).

On the Mac i put Fugu to gain access to the Root folder on the IP address i set up. In order to make this easy i gave my Iphone a static IP address on the Home Wifi Router.
Using Fugu you give the IP address of the phone then enter the folder(root) and port(22) then password (alpine) and your into the file system of the phone.

Before you even start to think of messing please back up any file your want to change. Not doing this for me led to a minor heart failure when my iphone went into a continuos boot after the wrong springboard.app was imported. While not good I was able to recover the phone :D

Once you have access to the Root folder above you can set about changing loads of stuff.
I posted a few days ago what i have changed so far but in a nut shell near everything.
Operator Logo to a .png and not Text
    Themes
    New Dialer Graphics
    Sounds
    Ringtones
    Number format mask changed.
International option set up for keyboard.
Dock Reflection on any Icon in the dock, (Modified sprigboard.app)
    etc...

Iswitcher i mentioned above for themes but this is a tricky little bugger of an app. Basicly you can change your themes. OK nothing major in that, Only problem is if you decide to unistall Iswitcher and you do not go back to the stock Iphone default theme it overwrites the Stock icons and your stuck with the last theme you had!!!! It took me over an hour of looking for stock icons (see Back ups work???) then having to put then back into the standard app folders in order to have my Iphone default theme back to normal. I will not be using Isiwtcher again and will stick with Summerboard for themes.

OK enough on the mods and more on the phone itself. So as a device how does it stack up.
    Phone:-
OK it makes and takes calls. nothing fancy, Full screen Photo appears for contacts when calling. Not as shown on the TV with a little tiny pic in the upper right.
    Caller ID working.
Contacts all there after sync with IMac
    Call volume good

    SMS:
OK works but can not delete indivudal SMS? App avaible for this i understand so no biggie here.

MMS: not there, Can recive pics through GMail which is working perfectly, can not send pics though.

    Email
Bloody fantastic, Gmail on IMap and my .mac acc working over home Wifi, work, wifi and in-laws Wifi. even jumped onto Wifi in the docs the other day to send a few work emails.

    Camera
2mp not the best around but very good at what it does. I use this alot in the office i as need to take pics of refurbished units and keep a record of such units. So before i would take a pic and then when back at the pc i would sync via Bluetooth to print out my pics. Now i take and email right away and the pics are wating for me when i get back to my PC. GREAT:D Also print full size A4 photos and they turn out very well indeed.

    IPod
Nuff said does what is says on the tin

    Videos
    Same as above.

    Safari web surfing
Best mobile device for surfing the net i have ever used. Real internet in your pocket. We did a compare with a HTC S730 which the company just purchased as business phones and it wiped the floor with the HTC.

My overall view on the IPhone is that when but back to back with a HTC S730or the like it will never win. HTC S730 and other are outright business phones that work with Enterprise solutions in the worksplace will always walk over the Iphone.
The IPhone works very well as a device to make and take a call and SMS. and to listen to music. Still as a device to use everyday for email, sending photos to my PC i love it. It just works so bloody well. It works diffently to other phones and after messing with a Nokia N73 and HTC S730 yesterday i hate the small screens. The Iphone has such a big screen that i have very quickly grown found of and will never go back to a standard phone again.

A Big thumbs up but apple can do better on V2

While i am no expert i have learned a lot about the IPhone and will try to help anybody trying to unlock or answer any questions so PM me if you need anything.
I have also built up a nice little stack of files for modding and other stuff and if you need anything give me a PM.

    cheers
    Darren

Modmyifone.com Great for Downloads, Themes, Forums, and loads of help should you stuff up your Iphone.
    Iphone unlock - Jailbreak guide
Customize Replace Icons, system sounds, Springboard text Strings etc... Very Good
Plaxo Great app in order to sync your Work PC, Iphone and Home Pc if your on different OS systems.
I use this to keep all appointments up to date on the Iphone and Work PC Via the Home Mac where i sync and charge the Iphone.

You can email pictures. You have to go to Photos, and there's an email option in there. There is no option is Mail to add a picture though, which is strange.

    Good write up though.

Nice review. I've been playing around with some of those apps for the last week. They really add to the iPhone, I'm amazed Apple don't open it more as there's not much you can do with it out of the box. I know they are releasing an SDK but I'm sure it will be very restricted!

What accessories have people purchased for their iphone?
I just have an Agent 18 Eco Shield Case, it was the most unobtrusive case I could find that wasn't made of rubber. Had rubber cases for my xda and they would stretch and become loose over time.

I'm not sure whether to get a screen film for it, I've heard the screen is very durable and scratch resistant. How do people who have had it for a while find the screen holds up?

I bought an Iphone from 'unlockthatiphone' at the weekend and I've heard nothing from them. I wrote several emails and phoned them but can not get anyone to respond to me.
The site says they'll respond to emails in one hour but I've not got any response! It's quite worrying.
Has anyone else had trouble with them?
I'll keep you posted on my progress!

I have sent them 3 emails in the last 3 days , No reply whatsoever.
Rang the number , no answer.
Notice someoen else in this thread said the same last month.
    Glad i didn't order now.:(

There customer service is appalling at the moment, have not been responding to emails or phonecalls, even though it says on there website will respond within 1 hour!!

Apparently they've tried a hardware unlock that was unsuccessful on the 1.1.2 iPhones, so there in the same boat as the rest of us awaiting an OTB software unlock.

I don't want to jump the gun and assume I've been ripped off but it's not looking good that they won't get in touch :(

You won't be seeing the iPhone anytime soon, as I've said there awaiting a software unlock from the Dev Team, that could be tomorrow or next month who knows! There offering refunds if you want to avail.

I had my iPhone on charge all night and this morning the vibrate is broke. Its like is catching against something inside the phone and is making a grinding noise. How the hell did this happen. Also the phone has been freezing and crashing a lot lately.

Actually I just remembered it feel on a hard floor last night. That must have broke the vibrate. What do I do now to fix it?

    Hi Akadesign,
Thanks for the info - If they had sent this info to me I'd have felt more reassured. In my eyes I just handed 549 euro over to a company that have ignored me entirely.
Where does it say that they're offering refunds? Or how do I get a refund? I'd wait a few weeks if they contacted me but they haven't so I think a refund is the only way forward. Cheers!

    Agreed.
So they will ignore all emails , until you email them demanding a refund.
    lol yea right.
Would it not have been better for them to remove the buy option , or just post NONE IN STOCK.No estimates.

It's funny, I had a lot of trouble contacting them on the progress of the iPhone but when I emailed them again asking for a refund I got it about an hour later!

Your right hottstuff they should post something on their website it would save all this confusion, they used to have fantastic customer service, not anymore....
