downgraded to 7.4.2 and got everything to work

Just received one of these. There is a USB charger with it that has a US connection. Is it possible to pick up an EU/UK connection for it or can I just plug in a standard 2 pin cable?

Buy yourself a cheap US to UK conversion plug from Michael Guiney's. Cost you €2 or there abouts. The supplied adapter is multi format as far as voltage is concerned (110-240v).

On the american charger that came in the box- just remove the 2 pin connection and underneath you will see one of those standard "figure of 8' connections that many laptop cables look like. I conected my camera charger cable to it and it worked perfectly, the iphone actually seems to charge faster than when connected to pc

Need some help here, following the "unlock that phone" guide but getting nowhere. Have a 1.1.2 phone and want to unlock to use the features, I know I can't sim unlock yet. Problem is I can't get into recovery mode in iTunes 7.5.

I start iTunes, phone is detected and it wants to activate the AT&T sim. I hold the power button and home button on the phone. The iphone disappears from the menu, but the yellow exclamation mark never appears on the iphone and the the recovery mode option never pops up in iTunes, even after holding the buttons for 1 min. What am I doing wrong?

I do the following:

Disconnect your iPhone from your Mac or Windows computer.

Press and hold the sleep/wake and home buttons simultaneously for about 20-30 seconds, until you see a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in the middle accompanied by the text "Please Connect to iTunes."

Connect your iPhone to your computer and launch iTunes if it does not automatically launch.

You should see the below image

Hold the power and the home buttons
After 10 seconds the screen will go black just after the slide to power off is on the screen
Release the power button now keep holding the home button plug the iphone into the PC still holding the home button apple logo will appear on the iphone and shortly after itunes will pop up the restore menu

Thanks, that helped.

I've been following the instructions on the "unlock that iphone". When I try and install "AnySIM1.2" it returns an error "Main script execution failed!" Anyone any ideas?

You have a 1.12 oob so anysim is not going to work on it yet

Anysim is for doing the sim unlock

You need to restore 1.11 from itunes then activate that via wifi then run OKTOprep while in 1.11 then UPGRADE to 1.12 then run jailbreak for 1.12 from the PC

BTW when you downgrade to 1.11 you will get an error you need ibrickr to get you back

Thanks, followed the instructions on their site. Thought that was part of the process as they had it included. Makes sense now, just have to wait now!

Does anyone know if the uk iphones unlocked and only be used with o2 sim cards over in Uk can be used with Irish o2 pay as you go?

I thought the 1.1.2 versions cant be unlocked yet? I'd say the seller simply upgraded their 1.1.1 iphone to 1.1.2
If he says it's unlocked then it should be compatible with any simcard (except three) but I don't know why he singled out o2 simcards only.

1.1.2 can be unlocked, kinda. It can be used with other O2 sim cards. I doubt very much it will work with O2 Ireland, as O2 Ireland sims don't work in O2 UK locked phones.

This is not unlocking. This is just using another SIM from the same network in a phone locked to that network.

O2 UK and O2 IRE are separate networks as far as SIM locking is concerned.

Sure it is. You can only use the O2 sim card that comes with the iPhone. You can then unlock the UK iPhone to work with any O2 sim card.

OK folks, i think we have had these toy long enough so i am posting a screen shot of what mine is looking like after some mods.

List of mods so far.
Proper O2 Logo
Star Trek Signal bars for phone strength
ISwitcher with Transformers "Protect" theme.
Loads of themes downloaded.
new Keypad dialer graphics
Various system sounds changed
New ringtones add with sendasong.

So what do you all have.

here are the steps i performed to change my carrier logo, i had to replace some files to make it work, ill post it step by step what i did so you wont get confused

first of all you need to have a graphic of your carrier, or making any graphic to show, wanna know how to do it?? check here:

I use Fugu on an IMac for accessing the root folder of my Iphone so, This works best for me but unsure of file transfer for Windows.

PS if you happen to drop the wrong springboard.app into your phone it will go into a repeated boot mode. Dont panic, you can still access the root folder and put the correct file back.

Attached are the two O2 logos if these are what your after.

What do people think? Anyone got experience of both?

From the spec, it appears that the Orbit is in a different league.

The orbit from what i know is a business phone where as the IPhone is a ipod and web broswer with a phone attached. While i use the Iphone for work i will be getting a HTC phone in the next few weeks for work.

The Iphone has a calendar which is synced to the imac at home and has email but your real useage is when using on the WIFI.
Buy which ever phone suits your needs best.

I just picked up an iPhone at the weekend and have had an xda for the last 2 years. Very little experience with the iPhone yet but they are very different devices. The touchsreen of the xda is nowhere near as good as the iPhone but you have the stylus which helps out. I haven't used HTC's new touchflo so that may solve that problem.

The 2 devices sync nicely with Outlook & play media fine, but the iPhone has a much better interface. The xda is more for business, supports push mail from exchange, you can edit word and excel docs, has a better selection of applications and supports GPS. The iPhone is excellent at playing media and I am very impressed with their browser, you can view full pages, but most embedded media files can't be played. Most decent sites out there have a pda version and these work great on the xda.

It depends on what you want from your phone, if you want a phone/media type device I would go with the iPhone, but if you want a personal organiser type device I would go with the xda.
