So, I work in Belfield industrial park, and was getting rather sick of the rubbish food in the canteen. So the other day I ventured out to Berman and Walace to try and get a sandwich.
I am greeted by a short chinese woman behind the deli counter.
    "Wa you wan?"
"Uh, brown bread with butter and swiss cheese?"
    "An then?"
    "Uh, coleslaw?"
    "An then?"
    "Some chopped peppers?"
    "An then?"
    "Thats it"
So I get my sammich and scuttle off back inside. I sit down at my desk and unwrap it.
Dear god. It was majestic! The single most amazing sandwich I had ever seen. Thick, pale brown bread. Cheese corners peeking out from between the slices. Not a drop of coleslaw dripping on the classy grease proof paper. And the rainbow splash of chopped peppers nestled firmly, but gently in place.
This woman, no. This was a godess of sandwich making. And I cannot even descibe what a joy it was to eat.

Needless to say, I have been back everyday since. I have built up a small relationship with this ancient oriental sambo master, to the point she has even made suggestions for enhancing the sandwich even further.

But anyway, Im quite bored so have decided to post about my best sandwich ever. Anyone else remember their finest sandwich, and man or woman responsable?

Last year I used to go to the same place for lunch and like you OP built up a bit of a relationship with my Sambo Lady. She ended up piling so much stuff into the sambo Id barely be able to finish it. If I asked for cheese she would give me some of the 3 different types, if I asked for ham she would layer it on. That was a good summer, I definatly got value for my money :D and to top it all off I was gauranteed a half decent 5 minute conversation while getting my sambo as oppossed to the usual "Wha do u wan" and nothing else as they throw it together.

Sounds like a pretty disgusting sandwich. What you need is a southern chicken fillet sandwich with some hash browns, white pudding and lots of mayo.

Equally, pieces of chicken breast, with stuffed turkey, cheese, tomato and taco sauce.

Another is Potato salad and bacon with a few tomatoes or else bacon and egg mayonnaise with out the tomatoes.

    They're real sandwiches.

nothing beats a bag of cheese and onion Tayto between 2 slices of white bread that have been layered with ketchup!!!

of course you must remove the taytos from the bag for optimum deliciousness !!!...Oh yea!!!!

a bit out of the way for the Dublin based, but HT Harris of 41 Great Titchfield St, London, W1W 7P make the greatest sandwiches ever.

It's run by an Italian family with an eye for quality. If you order badly they will tell you what you should have.

I had their spicy salami every monday for 3 years, and i could have kept on doing it except my work moved away from the area. Anyone working in the centre of London should drop by here.

Prices vary with Maria's mood and if she knows you.

There is no finer sandwich than a crip and cheese sandwich.

That sandwich sounds weird and I'm a massive fan of coleslaw and peppers.

I'd never put peppers into a sandwich not that it wouldn't taste bad it just wouldn't be cricket.

Aye, me too. It was never great and horribly over-priced. Often went to Statoil instead.

Buying a sandwich in a petrol station is just something that has never appealed to me.

Two pieces of thick toast, rashers, fried tomato slices, mayonaise and a runny fried egg.

Have it every time I'm dying of a hangover and by all the gods combined it's the greatest thing in the world.

Best served with a tall glass of chilled cranberry juice for maximum 'feel like a human being again' goodness.

McCabes Deli on Tara Street does the most divine samos ever. I had a chicken tikka, lettuce and red onion sambo on brown wholemeal bread - delish indeed! Their food is heavenly.

Cheese (sliced, not grated), sausages, and tomato sauce between two slices of toast. I can only make it at home though, wouldn't trust anyone else to make it for me. They'd ruin it.

I'm still trying to find a nice sambo place in Galway. 3 months and they've all been crap.
