Will my hair straightner work in the US?

I know they have a different system , will my ghd work over there ?Has anyone used one in the US ? My friend said it won't heat up enough wheras when the Americans come here their stuff overheats. I'm packing today so I would appreciate some help. Thanks.

They certainly do. They don't get as hot as here but they're sufficient to straighten hair! Bring it!

The first time I went mine worked perfect but the second time it wouldn't work at all so I don't know if it was because of the hotel or what. I was able to get a basic one over there for around $20, not nearly as good as my GHD but it did the job all the same

It will work but the US is at a different voltage so it won't be nearly as hot. it took me a lot longer to straighten my hair and it didn't last as long at all. I'd still bring it though. Any sheapy one you buy will do the same job as a ghd at half it's normal heat so there's not point wasting money on a new straightener.

Your hair straightner is 220V, it says this on the plug, on the box and probably also on the body of the straightner. Now unless it is compatible with 110V which I doubt it is then you cannot use it in the states. One can transform 220V to 110V but not vice versa.
Another question you must ask yourself is do you need to carry bulky/heavy items such as straightners etc 3000 miles over the atlantic? A good decsion would be to leave these not so essential items at home and cut down on carbon emissions. THe power of one goes a long way...

Depends on how long you plan to use it for, too much use and the fuse will probably blow!
Oh, and you can buy transformers there but they're about $50ish (well they were in Canada) so hardly worth it!

I'd guess that the straightener won't last that long either, running 110v through a transformer that's expecting 220v.

Speaking from experience, if you use your hair straightener in America it will only get warm and will not straighten your hair because it isn't hot enough. Definitely leave it at home!
