Premiership Weekend Thread - Back In Business

The Premiership is back in business after a 2 week hiatus :)

After the international break brought us the delights of yet another victory thrown away by our beloved national team and the perverse pleasure of English failure the Premiership is back again this weekend!

    Saturday, 24 November 2007
    Arsenal v Wigan, 15:00 Draw
    Birmingham v Portsmouth, 15:00 Pompey
Bolton v Man Utd, 15:00 ManYoo
    Derby v Chelsea, 17:15 Chelski
    Everton v Sunderland, 15:00 Everton
Man City v Reading, 15:00 Citeh
Middlesbrough v Aston Villa, 15:00 Viller
    Newcastle v Liverpool, 12:45 Pool

    Sunday, 25 November 2007
    Fulham v Blackburn, 16:00 Blackburn
West Ham v Tottenham, 13:30 Tiny Tots

I'm predicting a shock draw against Wigan for Arsenal. The international break has not been kind, claiming Hleb, Flamini, Diaby and Gilberto along with a banned Fabregas and a still slightly injured RVP. Man Utd should easily account for Bolton, I'm gonna go for a boring 4-0 victory. Repeat what I've just wrote except sub in Chelsea for Man Utd and Derby for Bolton. Elsewhere Everton, Citeh, Pompey and Villa are good value for wins. I think Pool will chalk up a cagey 1-0/2-1 win over Newky.

    As an aside; for the betting man amongst us;
    Arsenal 1/7
    Man Utd 1/2
    Chelsea 2/7
    >The treble works out ~Evens and going by the formbook, thats practically free money.

    Pompey 11/8
    Everton 8/13
    Man City 8/13
    Liverpool 1/1
    Spurs 6/4

    > My advice: Pick two out of each group and stick them in a lucky 15. My choices would be Man Utd+Chelsea+Pompey+City, €15 returns €51.

    Arsenal v Wigan, 15:00 Draw
    Birmingham v Portsmouth, 15:00 Portsmouth
Bolton v Man Utd, 15:00 Utd
    Derby v Chelsea, 17:15 Chelsea
    Everton v Sunderland, 15:00 Sunderland
Man City v Reading, 15:00 Draw
Middlesbrough v Aston Villa, 15:00 Villa
    Newcastle v Liverpool, 12:45 Draw

    Sunday, 25 November 2007
    Fulham v Blackburn, 16:00 Blackburn
West Ham v Tottenham, 13:30 Tottenham

I'll go along with your shock draw at the Emirates. I also fancy the Newcastle/Pool match to be a high scoring draw and the best game of the weekend. Man Utd to thrash Bolton, ditto Chelsea with Derby. Sunderland to sneak a late winner at Goodison. Spurs and West Ham to be a cracking match.

God knows what odds I'd get there.

You guys really think Wigan can avoid defeat? Arsenal will humble Wigan (of course if I'm wrong I'll gladly eat humble pie! :D)

Btw that Arsenal-Utd-Chelsea treble with paddypower returns 2.1888, nearly a 1/5 better than evens. Ladbrokes usually have special offers though on the day.

    1.2 to be exact. A €25 treble returns €55.10

    Where you getting that 1.2 from? €25 * 1.2 = €30

    I'm using decimal odds.
    So €100 staked @ 2.1888 returns €218.88

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,644 ✭✭✭✭cson

    Yeah I know 1.2 X €25 = €30 but most bookies I know of also give you your stake back, hence €30 + €25 = €55 which is what I posted above.

I bolded the Free money part, considering you think Arsenal will only draw

I'm wary, the top 6 should all win but first the post-international game is always harder to read, the minows have most fresh players and no mental baggage.

I'll predict a Newcastle/Liverpool draw with narrow wins for City, Arsenal.

    Arsenal v Wigan, 15:00 Arsenal
    Birmingham v Portsmouth, 15:00 Portsmouth
Bolton v Man Utd, 15:00 Man Utd
    Derby v Chelsea, 17:15 Chelsea

Middlesbrough v Aston Villa, 15:00 Villa
    Newcastle v Liverpool, 12:45 Draw

    Sunday, 25 November 2007

    Fulham v Blackburn, 16:00 Blackburn
West Ham v Tottenham, 13:30 Draw

Yes, but you forgot to bolden the "going by the formbook" part didn't you?

You guys are crazy - Arsenal drawing with Wigan?? Hello??? lol!
New manager for Wigan, and Arsenal are missing van Persie, Fabregas, Hleb, Gilberto, Flamini and Diaby. It isn't outside the realms of possibility.

With all those missing, what's the Arsenal midfield going to look like? Any youngsters getting a run out?

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 15,001 ✭✭✭✭Pepe LeFrits

    Rosicky - Denilson - Diarra - Walcott/Eboue

Could happen, theres a full midfield decimated courtesy of the internationals there. It will definitely be a lot closer than people think.

Edit: Pool have kicked off with surprise surprise, no Crouch. Did he bang Benitez wife or what?

Torres just missed an open goal - Hit the post

Newcastle very lucky there, don't think it was hand ball by Given, looked more like his shoulder

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,644 ✭✭✭✭cson

My word, comical defending by Newcastle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,227 ✭✭✭✭Guy:Incognito

Given gets away with handball outside the box then Torres hits the post with an opener from abotu 20 yards.

How poor have Newcastle been so far, can barely string together a few passes, the shape of the team is all wrong.
