My sister is having the same problem.Does it say no service now on the top left?

yep it does, there is a guy on ebay based in blanchardstown who says he can unlock them for 59 euro, he gave me his address and said you can drop the phone to his house in person if your a bit sceptical about sending it to a stranger in the post, im considering it at the moment

Where are people buying these? Just use buyitnow on ebay for about 500 dollars and unlock yourself?
Any better solution? Looking at an i pod touch, and thinking for the extra 100 dollars I could have the i-phone! Just toying with the idea.

i bought mine on adverts, they come up every now and again for 400 euro, mine was unlocked when i bought it but i relocked it by mistake myself, take a look on adverts

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,389 ✭✭✭cianclarke

400 euro? Wow, was that an 8gb?
How reliable are they, I'm wary about buying anything this expensive second hand incase anything goes wrong. There's not like a warranty you can buy from apple if it's second hand I take it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 216 ✭✭amandac

yes it was an 8gb, ive bought loads of stuff from adverts and they are very reliable, the warranty doesnt matter as once you unlock it you void your warranty, i had mine for about 2 months but as i said it was working perfectly until i updated it via itunes, if you do get one,. dont update via itunes, thats where the trouble starts, but i would definately reccomend one, its the best phone ive ever had

    Assistance please
Ive been using a iphone for 1 month now, reasonably happy with it. Looking for assistance with the following issues:
    1. I used powerhousedans link, and got the voicemail open, however it dosent send me a text message to let me know that i have a voicemail! any help or workaround?
    2. The i phone has paired with my pioneer BT car kit, problem is that each time i sit in the car, i have to manually select "direct connection", i would like it to autopair on entering the car, any help
    3. Any fix for improving the ring tone volume?

Th ephone is a US version 1.02, i dont really want to upgrade the software, as it seems difficult and im afraid i will brick it

    Hi Guys
Bloody great night, my wife comes back from NYC after buying my IPhone on 5th Ave, on Sunday, Great 1.1.2 i thought no hope of cracking, but stroke of luck she only bloody bagged a 1.1.1 and i got it unlocked and jailbroke in minutes. now to load a bunch of stuff on it.

    YEAHHHHHHH

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,246 ✭✭✭rc28

    Someone I know bought an iphone at the weekend in NY and it was only a week 43 iphone (one week newer than mine which i bought back in october!) and so it's definitely 1.1.1 firmware(only newer than week 45 are 1.1.2). I dont really get that though, either the apple store just hasn't been selling that many iphones(unlikely!) or shops still have a huge amount of old stock. I will be unlocking it tomorrow, all going well using the easiest to follow guide out there;
    http://www.hacktheiphone.com/111/iphone_step_1.html

Btw for o2 data settings I found that just filling in the apn with "internet" and leaving username and password blank worked too.

I just can't resist posting this:

OK - there is a report on the apple discussions boards that the iPhone will be available in Ireland within two weeks! (This needs to be confirmed)

Another report states that an Irish O2 Sim works in a UK iPhone! (I don't think this is true as I'd expect many who purchased the phone in Newry would have tried this)

The iPhone is due to be released in France on 29th November - French law requires that the carrier (Orange) must provide a Sim Free version also!

Most interesting is that a German court has ruled that T-Mobile must offer the iPhone Unlocked after Vodafone sued! This will be appealed (do a google news search)

Now I ask the question - Apple knew that France had to offer a Sim free version therefore is this the reason why they delayed the French roll out by 20 days and get the hype from UK and Germany?

It is interesting that the reports on the Apple Discussion forum puts the iPhone in Ireland in two weeks (posted on 18th of November), which happens to be just after an unlocked iPhone in France!

Was apple aware that they were going to have to release an unlocked version in Europe before Xmas, and therefore it is going to appear Europe wide? - I doubt this, but a lot of different threads seem to be suggesting this.

Apple have a looooong history of releasing products without pre hype and maybe the publicity (or lack off) that they have got from UK, German and French Launches is enough. We see an official iPhone here very soon! Why would apple dare miss the Christmas Markets? (then again I never buy an apple product till after the Macworld announcements in early Jan!)

We will know a lot more by the end of the month!

    UPDATE, UPDATE, UPDATE....

Unlocked iPhone on sale in Germany through T-Mobile for €999.00. A little on the expensive side, but now we know what price France will be selling them for.

Will the rest of Europe see it soon? Maybe my outrageous ideas was not so outrageous after-all. Might be worth waiting a week or two!

I ported my number from 3 to vodafone when I got the iphone a week ago, but I can't get internet to work with the above vodafone settings. I keep getting a message saying "EDGE Service not activated, You are not subscribed to EDGE" (or something along those lines). Does vodafone have to actually activate my account?

Wifi works perfectly by the way.

    Thanks

Guys my sister got a iphone online 3 weeks ago and was working perfectly until this week when now its saying call failed and where it should say o2 its saying no service. Please help me and let me know what the problem is as she is getting annoyed.

Hope to hear from someone.thanks in advance

Sorry to say that nothing can be done. Wait tell the hackers have a solution is all you can do - thats assuming that this is a software update issue.

The only person she can be annoyed with is herself. All the tech websites have been shrieking about the effects the firmware upgrade could have, its been shouted all over the internet. If she failed to miss it then its her tough luck.

Of course unlocked iphones have no warranty so as the other posters have said, its a brick if its a manufacturing fault.

That was my experience with vodafone too so i moved to o2 and data worked perfectly except it was really expensive! o2 are also the only network with edge iirc. Also, if your iphone is a 1.1.1 model you may have the bug that meant the iphone kept forgetting the data settings you entered. To remedy that you go into installer.app and i think in utilities there is a fix called "edge settings" or something like that.

    November 20th, 2007:
iPhone Update 1.1.2 and SimFree v1.8 news

We would like to let all our valued customers know that all testing for update 1.1.2 version phones is now complete. Yet again, SimFree remained completely unlocked and restore resistant for 1.1.2 version phones but we wanted to check and verify new updates to the OS region changes before recommending trouble free updates. As with all updates, the phone needs to be jail-broken and activated again for it to function. Thanks to the great work of the community, jail-breaking a 1.1.2 phone is now possible and works great.

We would like to also bring your attention to the recent events surrounding the iPhone Scene around the world. The recent launch of the European iPhone has introduced a new Bootloader which "currently" does not allow any kind of unlocking. The same Bootloader is present on the new iPhones that are purchased in the US with 1.1.2 pre-installed.

We are also ready to release SimFree v1.8 which is for people who got their base-bands updated to 04.02.13_G before using SimFree. This version must be used on a 1.1.1 Phone (with old bootloader) and then you will be able to update to 1.1.2 and still remain unlocked.

As a reminder, customers who have used any version of SimFree in the past are NOT required to re-unlock their phone for this update!

Procedure to update to 1.1.2 from older versions:

    1. In Installer go to Tweaks 1.1.1 and install Oktoprep.
    2. Open iTunes and hit Update in order to install 1.1.2 (note that if you press Restore it wont work)
    3. After that is done, download Jailbreak-1.1.2 (http://conceitedsoftware.com/iphone/1.1.2-jailbreak.zip) and proceed with the Jailbreak procedure. (for Windows & Mac)
    4. You will want to install iWorld from Installer after you update (found in Tweaks 1.1.2) in order to fix a known 1.1.2 crash caused with Unsupported Carriers.

The procedure to Install SimFree v1.8 on your Phone remains the same as before. Just add http://tinyurl.com/2qxpe6 in the Installer Sources and you will have the option to install SimFree v1.8 on your phone.

Keep your eyes pealed for more news soon to come.

    --iPhoneSimFree

Settings > General > About > And it's the "Version" your looking for. It's probably 1.1.2
