Warning DO NOT let iTunes upgrade you iPhone to 1.1.2
I spend 3 hours restoring , activating & unlocking mine again
    http://www.winandmac.com/mobile/iphone/win-ultimate-guide-to-unlock-iphone-111-for-free/
This is the best guide I could find to activate & unlock iPhone. It has to be at version 1.1.1 remember

    To restore
first download a version of 1.1.1
hold home & power switch , release power button when logo disappears & hold in home for about 15 seconds.
Connect to iTunes when the restore option shows press shift & click restore browse to your downloaded file & click open

Ok so i just got my iPhone there..it has version 1.1.2 though and i'm a bit confused about downgrading it. Most of the guides i have been looking at require iNdependence but is only for the mac. The windows counterpart iDemocracy "jailbreaks only 1.1.1 iPhones and automates quite a number of things including SSH and AppTapp installation"

this is takin from this website. http://tkhere.blogspot.com/2007/10/break-out-idemocracy-111-independence.html

Can someone please help me out with how to downgrade to versions 1.1.1 using windows.

    Thanks,
The new version of iNDependance is released tonight at 7.00pm. That will jailbreak and activate your OTB (Out of The Box) 1.1.2 iPhone. See here: http://code.google.com/p/idemocracy/

Alternatively you could use iBrickr to get your phone out of restore mode on Windows.

People here are comparing using an hacked iphone in Ireland to other similar phones on the market.

I live in London, what would peoples' opinions be on buying and having an iphone here, on the £35 contract. I assume most of the 30% of the EDGE network is in London and lots of "The Cloud" wifi points. I've messed around with a friends iPhone and I liked it, so I'm thinking about getting one, a good buy?

Guys I'm baffled - I've just been scouting around eBay and there are loads of unlocked iPhones for sale for 99p - how is that even possible? How can they be making any money? The sales description looks fine but it just seems waaaaay too cheap, is it just too dodgy to go for them? Has anyone else bought unlocked iPhones off eBay? Any problems?

They're auctions. The bidding starts at £0.99

Alternatively you can "buy now" for £399.99

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 467 ✭✭nikimere

I would say use your common sense.

Of course they are not real deals, a new UK IPhone costs €390. You've buy one from the US for about €350ish... anyone selling one for 99p is either taking the piss or not selling an actually iPhone.

@blah: if you can afford the £35 i'd go for it!

I too got mine in Newry (check a few pages back in this thread). I went to Carphone Warehouse and got asked too many questions. Went to O2 store and bought it no questions asked.

I have mine jailbreaked and activated. There is no unlock for UK iPhones yet. They have a different bootloader to the previous phones. All new iPhones worldwide are being release with this new bootloader so it's only a matter of time before someone hacks it.

Thanks Nikimere, will wait for the hack I guess. Still it's promising that at least the ipod/safari and so on are working :)

do you not have to pay a weekly subscription to o2 bebo service? anyone noticed unlockthatiphone site has been temporarily suspended?

has anyone bothered updating to 1.1.2

Bebo service is free till the end of november. Does anyone know of a way to cache pages from safari, it bothers me that it always forgets the cache once you leave a wifi hotspot.
There's no point in updating to 1.1.2 imo- nothing new in it, wait for 1.1.3 or later if there are new features brought on them.

    Hey it just says that

"iDemocracy 2: Releasing 16th of November at 6PM! Now with automatic revirginizing of 1.0.2!"

Whats the difference between 1.1.2 and 1.0.2? I think mine is 1.1.2 since i mine was bought yesterday in the states?!

This guide looks very complicated with all that entering of command lines etc...there are defintely easier ones out there

    Eeehhh!!!

(win only. Mac user need to use Fugu in Stage 2 and after.)..

It works perfect. I used it on a phone that was restored from 1.1.2
Ignore the message saying that it cant be restored. Once that displayes the phone is restored. Use iBricker to boot the phone out of restore mode.

Ok so i used iBricker to kick it out of restore mode and it says to me now ...BUMMER you seem to be using 1.1.1.

Ok so that looks great thats what i want.

But when i do a check on the iphone it still says the firware version is 04.02.13_G instead of this 04.01.13_G which is what it should be right?

Why hasn't it changed since iBricker says i'm running 1.1.1?

Did you follow steps 12 & 13 Upload the folder in binary & check the folder permissions?
Have you tried running it again? At what stage is it stopping? Are you getting an error?
What network sim are you using? Is the PIN lock turned off on your Sim?

I didn't use that guide but i don't see how that guide makes any difference for my situation? I have the phone unlocked, i can use all the applications except the anySim won't work so i ca'nt put in my Vodafone sim card and actually make calls!
The anySim downloads etc and works away, then at the very end it just says
    "anySim cannot unlock this phone..."

any help? i think its because i have (baseband 04.02.13_G) which is the new one

    Firmware did not revert...
    it should be 04.01.13_g
You could try this method first
    http://www.iphoneunlockaustralia.com/iphone-unlocking/accidentally-upgraded-to-1.1.2-heres-a-free-solu.html
its not for the faint hearted but it works

Mine is a brand new one though

what do u think about reverting back to 1.0.1. Apparantly the any sim will work then even if i have 04.02.13_g

Ok so i'm leaving my iphone at this stage for the time being.

I have downgraded it to 1.1.1 and it still has 04.02.13_g.

I can get the phone to activate no problem its just the anySim applications don't work for the 04.02.13_g. Its really annoying!

I tried using this guide http://www.iphoneunlockaustralia.com/iphone-unlocking/accidentally-upgraded-to-1.1.2-heres-a-free-solu.html

but i can't get it to downgrade to 1.0.2 either....

    Stress!

    please help!

I am not 100% on phones out of the box with 1.1.2
But I think you need to revert in order & upgrade the same way..
ie.. Restore fromm 1.1.2 to 1.1.1 & then to 1.0.2 then Upgrade to 1.1.1
What is happening when you try to downgrade to 1.0.2??

just back from the states and here's some info...

i walked into an AT&T store friday 16th Nov, told the sales guy i wanted the iphone to take back to europe. he asked if i was paying with a credit card (yes) and he sold it to me no questions asked.

    $419 (incl tax)
    1.1.1 firmware

i'm actually having problems activating though and if anyone can help it would be appreciated...
i've been trying the unlockthatiphone.com method and i've set up the wireless, gone to the site and clicked "install AppSnapp" and the phone goes back to the emergency call screen.

it says i should wait 5seconds-5minutes and the phone will restart.

this isnt happening, can anyone help me ?

I've unlocked two 1.1.1 iphones using this tutorial at iphone.unlock.no.
I haven't had any problems, but this is what they say if the phone doesn't restart itself:

"If you visit jailbreakme.com, install AppSnapp, get thrown back to the activtion screen and you have waited more then 3-5 minutes but phone does not restart - try restarting your phone manually. If phone starts normally everything is fine. If you still only get to the activation screen it did not work. Usually this is because there is a problem on the server, or maybe your internet connection. Wait some time (a few minutes if you are impatient, or a few hour if you want to be sure) and try again."

anyone on pay as you go vodafone sim that has edge working?

    ie. apn - live.vodafone.com
    user - vodafone
    pass - vodafone

    I think the settings are:
    apn-- isp.vodafone.ie
    user--vodafone
    pass--vodafone

Other people have got it working through those settings but it didn't work for me so i switched to o2 and their edge worked perfectly except it drained down my credit really quickly (it downloaded all my new mail and attachments).
I now have an empty balance and obviously it won't load the web but o2 texted me the link to their new bebo page which is supposed to be free but it didn't load at all. Do i have to change some settings(currently my apn is just "internet") or is it just becasue i have no credit?

    thanks

    o2 data settings;
    apn--internet
and you don't need to fill in the username or password fields.
worked for me perfectly but it does cost quite a lot, and remember that safari is a full browser so web pages will be quite large in size.(check out your data counter under "usage" in the settings menu).
