i prob sound like a prick to the non-asshole people in whitechurch who just want to use the 15b for transport without any trouble but i wish they hadnt expanded the route, The 15b buses where great for getting home from town but now they are being wrecked by skangers starting fights and graffiti-ing the buses, its only been a few weeks ffs, it used to be grand with only old people on it and no trouble, that was the last bus to be totally safe and now they go and expand it into whitechurch  they either should have security on the bus or reduce the bus to areas in whitechurch where theres less trouble

I too enjoyed the days when the 15c and the 15b were separate. I don't want to put what will be a minimum of a 30 minutes extra onto my journey by hopping on my local bus. Plus the 15c was my most reliable and quickest bus into town.

On the graffitti bit, I'm sure it has happened but could some of it be down to the 15c buses being used over the 15b route?

They always were used on both routes - a 15b could arrive into town and then operate a 15 or 15a or 15c and v.v. - nothing has changed about that except that there are far more buses serving Whitechurch now than before.

Would now be a good time to start poking TDs about getting a transport police division set up or re-tasking the GTC to cover public transport? At least now we have media coverage.

Looks like they got a little **** for doing it. Info here.

It's good that the whole country knows Whitechurch is a ****hole. I grew up in ballyboden and the kids there go out of their way to act mad then grow up and threaten you with knives. A lot of them have knives now. I'm sure there are some nice people there, but just hiding in their houses.

They should permanently stop running into the estate and run the bus to the end of Whitechurch Rd instead.

I read about changes in these routes in Tom Kitts election literature. Apparently the plan is to amalgamate the 15C in a new route 74A and to extend the 15B from Scholarstown Rd to Whitechurch. I cannot find anything about this on Dublinbus.ie which is a bit much considering that it is supposed to be starting on 21st May.
I'm not much of a user of public transport, not enough patience, prefer to use my motorbike but my son uses the 15C for school. He's a bit put out by this as the 15B leaves him a fair distance to walk at the other end and he already has a bit of a walk to get to the 15C in the first place.

After one week of the new 15B service my son decided himself to walk the mile and a half to Grange Rd to get the the 16. Twice it took him over an hour to get as far as Rathgar. It might be a more frequent service but it certainly isn't faster. The Whitchurch/Ballyboden area needs its own direct route into town. The magical mystery tour does not serve the public well.
I know that its not fair for Dublin Bus staff but it is just as hard on the ordinary decent folk in Whitechurch who just want to get to work/school/night out.

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but could someone please tell me where the 74A's closest stop to Scholarstown Road is coming from the City Centre? I asked the driver of one today if she stopped near Scholarstown Rd - for some reason she told me No. I have definitely seen it go around Scholarstown roundabout on the way to the city centre, but I didn't take the chance tonight as I'm not 100% sure where it goes after the Statoil garage on Ballyboden road when coming from CC.

Also, today's 15/15B service was severely delayed due to the weather and resulting traffic but I'd like to say how much the drivers were doing to help people get home. One 15B driver, having closed the door at college green saw people knocking to let them on. He had a wheelchair passenger, which I assume means that the limit of passengers must be strictly adhered to. Instead of driving away, he left the cab, climbed the stairs, came back down, opened the door and told the crowd he could take 7 more. Luckily there were 5 or so at the stop and I'm sure they appreciated not being left in the rain.
The driver of the 15 I eventually got seemed anxious to make up for the delays on the route (over 30 mins). At each busy stop he encouraged the last few people to board the bus so he could start driving while issuing tickets and he made the journey in 40 minutes which I think was quite an achievement given tonight's traffic situation.

    Well done guys!

From a Rathmines point of view, I very rarely see a 74 or 74a compared to the 15s.

I think there is one just before the roundabout on Ballyboden road or just after it. The bus does go up Scholarstown road, I can't remember if they let anybody off on it. Actually, I don't think there is a stop on Scholarstown road because the only footpath is on the other side of the road.

It goes down Scholarstown road for a short distance, not sure if it stops on it but there is bound to be a stop near enough.

The routing is: Ballyboden Rd -Edmonstown Rd - Scholarstown Rd - Stocking Lane - Stocking Ave.

Coming out of town, there's a stop on Scholarstown Road right before the bus turns right up Stocking Lane.

Heading into town, there's a stop just after the entrance to Boden Park.

That said, it's happened a few times while waiting to get off on Scholarstown Road, that the bus driver has asked me where's the stop!!

"It's where that blue pole with the roundy thing on top is"

As long as you don't mind walking back from the terminus. ;)

Sorry to correct you John (and it's not often this happens!!), but the routing is:

Ballyboden Road - Right onto Ballyboden Way - Left onto Scholarstown Road - Right onto Stocking Lane - Right onto Stocking Avenue.

one thing that wrecks my head is that on a few occasions i've been on a 15/15b behind a 74 or 74a and the amount of people who will let the half empty 74/a go past and then stick their hands out for the full(ish) 15/b drives me potty! They go to the same place ya numpties  - for the pedants out there i know macken st and eden quay are not the same but how many people get out at either terminus?

I have to say that the frequency of the 15B at peak times appears to have decreased. (I know - frequency was supposed to have increased - but it certainly doesn't seem that way!)

I'm based in the Ballyroan area, and previously I could get a 15B (my first choice) or a 15C to get home in the evenings from town.

Lately, I have been left waiting for 20/30 mins for a scheduled 15B into /out of town. The 74A seems to be equally eratic. Obviously, this is more of a problem on cold, wet November days.:( I was much happier with the more predictable 15B service of the past- this new, extended 15B to Whitechurch is a less reliable service for Ballyroan residents. I can't imagine residents from the old 15C route are happier with a longer route either. Not sure why Dublin Bus felt the need to change these routes.

It's now a more reliable/frequent service from/to Whitechurch, which sounded great on election manifestoes. But it has, as you said, increased the journey time for myself getting into town. As I've said in this thread, the other option for me for getting into town would be to get a 16, but they're horribly unreliable, or a 74a which is a good bit of a walk away.

I did prefer the previous bus routes too. Takes an hour to get in on a bus now (at most times bar the incredibly offpeak times :)) whereas it takes 30 minutes to cycle.
