Yeah, it is a pity. I have to say I think they look pretty crappy too, they don't have the styling down to the same extent as some of the nice amps out there.

Well, I wouldn't call 'em crappy looking, but yeah, definitely not the most asthetically pleasing amps in the world. I think Engl holds that claim.
Bogner are made in USA fwiw ;)

    Oh right, my bad. ;)

Does nobody else have any amps to add? Come on people, there's loads more out there, I'm sure.

...for those of us who want our own tone to shine through...an awesome 5 watts of power (!), creamy valve breakup and cool retro style. The same as the epi valve jr posted earlier in this thread, but with a 112 cab instead of a crappy 8" speaker.

One knob is all a man needs, if he knows how to use it :D

Show me that yoke doing a smooth high gain lead, MarkIV stlye, then I'll believe you. Untill then, I call shenannigans!
    Any VOX fans?

Probably quite a few. They're not something I've ever really been interested in personally though.

yeah, i just hate amps that let the sound of my guitar come through with a semblance of originality and failthfullness :D

    Cheeky bugger! :D

Are you saying that any amp with high saturation doesn't let the tone of your guitar come through? That's crazy talk right there man, you'd have to have your ears chewed off in a freak dogwalking accident if you couldn't hear the tonal differences of pickups and wood through a nice Mesa Boogie or Engl. Believe me, with the same settings on my Engl, different guitars can make a vast difference, they rarely ever sound the same.

the more gain you play with, the less individual guitars sound different

they'll still sound different, but for them to sound what they sound like naturally, the less crunch you have the better.

    whaddaya know
    i play surf

Meh. If you don't want an amp colouring your tone, just play acoustic, and mic it. ;)

Part of the reason of getting a really nice amp is that the amp itself adds something to the mix. Even using a clean tone, a nice warm tube sound would be very desirable.

    Mmm... Tubes...

I disagree, different guitars react to gain in different ways. So are you saying that a 335 and a modern ESP with EMG's will sound the same with high gain??

    Thats ridiculous man!

Harking back to Voodoo's original post, this god damn VHT has been giving me some serious GAS as of late:

That looks so tasty I want to shake some salt on it and stick a fork in it.

Pretty ridiculous, you'd never take it out, more furniture than an amp, but you can say that about lots of PRSs etc too, and it doesnt make it any less sexy :D

The grill makes it look like something I'd put my dirty laundry in.

I like Mark IV's, but honestly, that one just doesn't do it for me at all.

Deadly! Now, that would be good for me....or more to the point....for my wife!! She won't let me display my amps, as they look....messy....so I have to put them away when not using...(yes, I am whipped.....), but that, because its all woody and warm looking and furniture like.....that I might just get away with!!!!!

Well, if it's an excuse to buy a Mesa Boogie, then I fully support it. ;)

It's an AC30 isnt it? Leave it plugged in for a couple of hours and it'll overheat and get a nice little fire going, keep you warm through the winter months ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

Yes. It's an AC30. I'm selling my Engl Fireball so I can buy... An AC30. whack.gif

While I'm at it, I've got an Ibanez Universe that I want to swap for a MIM Tele.

i think you'd find a lot of guitarists would take an AC 30 over a fireball.

    i certainly would.

not all are into seven string speed metal chugging (although it is fun )

The irony of me choosing an AC 30 over a Fireball has been lost on you then? :)

obviously i wouldnt expect you to favour an AC 30 but dont poo poo the possibilty of others using it.

great amps. pity about the reliability, and weight, and the numerous other drawbacks.

Leave it plugged in too long and you'd end up with a fireball anyways ;)
