PC mode on my samsung lcd tv

Ok I have my tv connected to my laptop via a monitor cable but I still can't switch on the pc mode. I don't know what else to do. Any help? Its one of the new samsung 40" 1080p blah blah blah lcd tvs fwiw.

Does it appear in the cycle for switching between aux inputs, like AV1, AV2, HDMI, etc.?

Have you toggled the display so the laptop is outputting to an external monitor? Usually the fn key and one of the numbers along the top of the keyboard.
