    Hi,

Does anyone know if it's possible to transfer recorded films & programmes from your Sky+ box onto a hard drive or laptop?

There is a usb port in the front of the box (next to card slot) but I can find any way of transferring the films. I have gon through the options on the remote and all I can see is a way to "copy" the film if you have a video hooked up (which I haven't)

I have had to delete loads of films that I didn't get round to watching because I was running out of disc space. Would be handy to t/fer them onto my laptop & watch them at my leisure.

    thanks.

I don't think it is possible.

I vaguely remember hearing about harddrive extensions, like an external harddrive. Probably cost and arm and a leg though.

The data on the hard drive is encrypted. You'll need to capture the output of the box using a TV card and then record this output. There is some degradation in quality, however.

This pops up so often it might deserve a sticky.

ethernet is right, you need to capture the analog video output. Other than a TV card, another option is a DVD recorder. Once the movie is recorded you can import it onto a PC and do as you wish, perhaps convert to divx/xvid...

I use this system to convert shows to xvid and watch on micro devices... eg my phone and my Nokia 770 internet tablet while running on a treadmill...

Sky installed the USB port "just in case" they ever had a use. There was a rumour they were going to release a portable media player but it never happened. The USB port remains unused. The new HD box has an e-sata port which remains unused since it came out 18 months ago.

    Ix.
