    You. Are. A. Legend.

Hundreds of cyber pints heading your way mhate!!!

    Very much appreciated!!!

    Works a dream!!!

I rang Vodafone and I'm on their 25 megs or gigs plan (whichever it is!) for 19 euro. Is it hard to use that much data???
Glad you're finally getting hooked up! I hope the YouTube goes well. Speaking of pints, it's way past 5. Time for some! Sláinte!

I have my phone nearly 3 weeks now & if you check out usage on Settings, it shows the EDGE data that you've used. I've sent 3.1mb & rec. 17.9mb! Actually Vodafone have a plan for a 500MB monthly Add On for just €9.99. That's what I have. I don't want to tell them I have an iPhone so I must check out what the craic is over the weekend (or find someone who'll be impressed with the phone ) to see if they'll let me have the best plan for the phone). It is easy to eat up our data allowance (especially down the pub showing off your new toy).
    Where did you get this amazing 500mB package from? Vodafone are one of the worst for data, take a look at the following link;
    http://www.vodafone.ie/soho/price/dataroaming/3ggprsplans/index.jsp
Acording to the above they charge 10euro for just 15mB for data which is diabolical! Are there some other vodafone packages I don't know about? Are you on billpay or prepay? I know there is the 99c a day package but that's only for vodafone live mobile sites. As far as i can remember, 3 are the best for reasonably priced data, you can get 100mB for just 5.99 per month.

    F**k - I think you're right! I'm on billpay.

Like I mentioned, I have to check Vodafone direct but **** dude... that has me worried! Better get it cleared up asap. And I caught with data before as well! That shiny, shiny phone blinding me! Oh dear :)

Sorry if this has been posted before - is this a new service or do people have experiences from this provider? Unlocked iPhone €600... Couldn't find anything about it in this thread..

Anyone gone roaming with it yet?

I have mine over in Spain here at the moment... it seems to run into problems when it roams onto the Orange Network here and it loses the whole interface.

2 questions for those in the know!

Firstly, I got my phone off unlockthatiphone.ie and found their service nop notch - would, and have, recommended them to others.

    1. As the iPhone runs off the American electrical network, if I try to charge my iPhone using my iPod speakers (which also charges my iPod) will it be okay?

    2. I'm on the vodafone network and the cost of using my iPhone to go on the net is extremely prohibitive due to the cost of data transfer. If I use my wifi connection that I have at home am I still charged for the data transfer from Vodafone???

I have a sealed 8Gb iPhone, if anybody is interested. I can unlock it if required.
PM me if interested, if people are unsure about buying from onilne stores.
Mod, please delete this post if it breaks any rules.

How much? I might buy it seen as 'unlock' won't sell me one.

I'm not looking to make a profit.
I ordered one on ebay, the seller was messing about with delivery, so I thought I wasn't going to see it, and was looking at a claim with paypal.
In the mean time, I ordered another iPhone. Low and behold, the original one arrived, so I have a spare.
Would be looking €520 for it, or thereabouts.

    1. The iPhone is multivolts US/EU power. If your charger is 220v, the phone will change to 220v. My iPhone came with a US 110v plug which I replaced with my euro ipod 220v plug - no problems - as the wall adaptor can hanle 110-240.. This is the same with my car charger. If your speakers however handles multivolts then at a best guess it should be ok. Have a look here though. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1162528&tstart=0

    2. If you are connected via Wi-Fi at home, you're NOT being charged by Vodafone!

On another note, I was onto Vodafone at the weekend. Yep, unless u use vodafone Live's portal to acess non-Live pages, you'll be billed up the a**. There isn't a way around this as Vodafone use proxy settings to enable their apn & the iPhone hasn't got a way of changing this (hence apn: live.vodafone.ie etc will not work. Using isp.vodafone.ie you'll be charged their expensive GPRS charges! Feicers!). The only option is to use Wi-Fi when you can or sign up to their ****e data charges http://www.vodafone.ie/dataservices/gprs/prices/index.jsp?datatariffs=true
Oh well. Unless someone can figure our how to get Live on the phone, we're screwed.

I cannot get Youtube working. I've replaced the 3 files in /Lockdown but still I cant connect. Any ideas?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,409 ✭✭✭madmoe

I had the exact same issue. Ensure u delete all the files if there are any already in the lockdown directory. Then download the ones you can find on the net, just Google iPhone + YouTube.

Right - apologies for this, but i cant read every single comment in this mega thread.

Heading for a little New York shopping soon and was thinking of picking up the iphone. It looks like a cool gadget, even tho i dont know a whole lot about it!!
    Is it easily unlocked?
Will i have to pay to get it unlocked or is there codes going around the internet?
DO u have to go on bill phone to use it?

    Thanks in advance.

Before apple released the latest firmware update for the iphone it was well established how to unlock the iphone and put 3rd party apps on it, you could use the paid versions like this irish site(confirmed legit by many on here);http://unlockthatiphone.com/
or there were free versions like "anysim" which my brother used successfully to unlock his one he got in NY. I'm not sure what you meant by "would i have to go on bill pay" but this doesn't make sense as once you've unlocked it you can put any sim in it, no matter if it's prepay or bill pay.

    However all of this has changed since apple's latest firmware update (which is now preloaded on every iphone in US stores). This update made it imposible to unlock iphones using the existing old methods but the hackers are currently working very hard on rectifying this and there should be an unlock for it soon. But the reality is that apple will probably just keep releasing new updates that reverse these unlocks so if you do get an iphone NEVER install new firmware until you've checked the tech blogs to get the latest news or you risk bricking your phone. Anyway here's the latest on the hacking situation;

Clcik back a few pages on this thread for other info.

    Hi guys,
Everytime I send an e-mail from my iPhone to someone I then get a copy of it back into my Gmail inbox? This only happens on the Gmail inbox on the iPhone itself, the copy does not appear in my Gmail inbox on a PC, only in my sent items when I am on Gmail on my PC.

    Cheers,
    Mark

Sorry, I wasn't very clear with this. I meant to say I have a Nokia Bluetooth kit installed (i.e. no cradle or charger). Will the I-Phone work with this.

Also, if it does work, can I play the I-Tunes over the bluetooth connection?

Has anyone been to the states on and got one? From what i read, you can only buy one on contract with AT&T, is this true? If so i have no chance of getting one then, i am not a resident etc, or are they for sale elsewhere?!

    Mel, it's very simple.

You can buy iphones over the counter in the Apple Store for $399. You then bring it back here and get it unlocked, either do it yourself or pay about €40 to get someone who knows what they're doing to do it for you.

Apple will sell you the (or anyone) the phone over the counter.

The i Phone will pair with bluetooth headsets so at best guess, it should work with your kit as that's along the same principle.

You won't be able to stream music via bluetooth however.

    Thanks for the info guys.

    Here is another question.
Can an external GPS antenna be sourced to work with the iphone, and then get some mapping software for the phone? I know Microsoft Autoroute can be installed on a laptop and work with a USB GPS receiver.
