Zephyr 1100 luggage options

Having re;uctantly decided that keeping my pride and joy under lock and key and spending 2 hours each way into Dublin (from Naas) in my car is a waste of a significant part of my life I find that I have restricted luggage options :

1. A (heavy) rucksack with the resulting sweat soaked back.
2. Er - that's it.

Givi don't make a fitting kit for a '92 Zephyr 1100 nor can I find anything else around. I need to carry a laptop and various items of office related crap so need something of a reasonable size (and not too ugly).

Failing that, any suggestions for a more practical commuting bike also appreciated (then maybe a '92 Zephyr with 2955 miles for sale).

Try getting throw over soft panniers. I picked up some for around €60 at the bike show and they worked a treat. Failing that a tank or tail bag.

The laptop is the problem - a lot of top boxes and panniers can't accommodate the larger ones - never mind tank bags, soft panniers and the like.
Can you convince your boss to splash out on one of those tiny three grand Sony yokes?

Pretty much all you can do is put the laptop into its bag or sleeve, take it round the bike shops and see what gear it fits into, then see what bikes that gear can fit onto... Givi panniers/boxes and Ventura bags are expensive but good quality and have fitting kits for pretty much any bike. I dunno about Ventura but a few places in Dublin stock Givi e.g. Bikeworld, and Killeen Motorcycles in Kimmage.

Backpacks are grand for putting stuff like rain gear or spare clothes into. Not anything hard that might cause injury if you landed on it with force. As you say, they're uncomfortable/tiring if there's any weight in them.

Thanks for the advice.

Tried the soft throw-over panniers but found them very fiddly to install and about as waterproof as a colander. The laptop isn't very big but I have been definitively informed that Givi don't make a suitable fitting kit unless someone knows different or there is the possibility to modify one. I'll have a scout around for Ventura stuff.

The boss bought a 3 grand Sony but won't let go of it and won't buy any more. A second cheap one will solve most of my problems.

Never thought about possible injury from hard items in the back pack - thanks for the heads up.
