I'd imagine its backwards compatible with regular DVD's and CD's, the link you provide goes to the Generic Sony Website and not a particular laptop but I'd say its safe enough to assume it will burn dvd's ok.

Yes, it will play and write DVDs and CDs. As Majik was saying, we can't see your exact laptop, but I imagine its about EUR1,500 - 2,000? If you want to watch HD movies on the move I say go for it but other than that I'd recommend a PS3 (down to EUR400 now) and a Sony laptop without Blue Ray. You're paying through your teeth for a player than is essentially wasted in your laptop.

Yeah get a PS3 if you want to watch bluray films. If you ask me, I'd say don't bother with sony laptops. Sure they look pretty but they are really expensive and are crap value for money.

Yeah, the laptop in question is €2000. I guess a laptop without the blue ray drive is probably better value. Maybe I will look at the Dell website and compare the specs to those of the Vaio minus the blue ray. Thanks for the feedback.

Spend the €400 on the PS3, spend about a grand on a dell vostro (post up what you'll be using it for and I'll spec one up for you if you like) and spend the other €600 on a nice flat screen tv or surround sound for the PS3. That's the way I would do it.

Well I don't actually have a PS3, surround sound or flat screen tv because I'm a bum student. :( And if I had €2000 I would probably spend it on a sweet desktop. :) But if I was gonna buy a PS3 I would want a sweet tv to play it on.
