The only thing cruel about the XFactor is the way they are pumping Sharon Osbourne full of formaldehyde in order to keep the wizened harpy ticking over for yet another series of this drek.

As for the people who come along to it, they know exactly what they are getting themselves in for, and if their thirst for their fifteen minutes of fame is that bad, then they should be prepaired to deal with the fact that their utter lack of talent may well be showcased for the public to watch.

i think the xfactor is great, the more stupid the people seem the funnier i find it! that bloke singin zippedy do da was hilarious, sometimes i think its just people from an art college or a drama school or somethin comin on to do a project to wind everyone up, i have my suspicions!!

I definitely think they weren't the full bob. They said they did absolutely everything together, which reminded me of a programme that was on recently about these Dutch twin sisters who were similarly joined at the hip and seriously mentally ill: http://www.channel4.com/culture/microsites/C/cutting_edge/twin.html

And there was another programme on RTE about older twin sisters who weren't as ill as the Dutch girls, but definitely had too much dependence on each other: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4161/is_20060813/ai_n16651256

The women in the X Factor clearly had no idea how they looked - looks aren't everything but come on! There's a difference between not being attractive-looking and actually letting yourself go. Most people look ok if they make some bit of an effort. And these twins were saying stuff like "we could be superstars".
Couldn't be right in the head.

Ah that poor young fella clearly had an intellectual disability. He was probably in his late teens but acted like a small child. And said his influences were stuff like S-Club 7 and Steps. There wasn't a hint of knowingness there - he was definitely an innocent. I'm not a politically correct type but I just didn't laugh at him. And the look of bewilderment on his face when they told him he wasn't any good. No I don't think that should have been televised. Poor lad.

    1. People who are clearly nuts and have no talent
    2. People who may have talent or a particularly quirky personality
    3. People with an interesting personal story

It's all about making good TV.
what he said, ive got a friend (woo, go me! =o), who got to the last 5 in 'your a star' a few years ago, shes a pretty good singer, anyway she applied to X factor, and i think went through two rounds, but didnt get to see simon cowell

People who enter onto x factor or big brother etc are people who exist at the base of society or are mentally handicapped. Whenever they know they have them all there at one time the place ought to be bombed hard. That way the twat quotient would be significantly reduced in Ireland/UK/anywhere.

I don't think so. Sharon Osbourne twigged straight away that the guy had the mental capacity of a child and shouldn't have been standing in front of them. They should really have left his clip on the cutting room floor IMO.

If they had any talent they'd be putting their music on Myspace. Otherwise it's good TV but tbh the auditions would be better. Pity there isn't a live studio audience for them!

X factor is getting abit stale. I think to change things up abit each contestant should have to bring in a friend, family member or singing coach and before they sing this person should have to put their hand on a bible and swear that the person is a good singer.

If the contestant gets 3 "no's" from the judges then the contestant has to slap this friend, family member or coach accross the face with a wet fish !!!

now that would be good television !!! :D

Yeah - Its definitely uncomfortable at times to see Simon Cowell sitting at that desk during the X-Factor public auditions.......happy out counting his millions while at the same time taking the pi$s out of the mentally disadvantaged, weak-minded and the defenceless.

    - But then nobody forced Louis Walsh to re-join the show...........

If she isn't a complete heroin addict then nor are the lovely people that come up to you in Stephen's Green asking for "a euro for the bus".

As far as whether it's cruel or not goes, nobody forces these people to enter these competitions and all the big superstars have had to face rejection at some point. Britney Spears was rejected by a number of record labels before being signed to Jive. Laugh at her now because of her trailer trashness or lack of fashion sense but she is one of the most famous women in the world and has sold 76 million records.

Destiny's Child lost at the American TV talent show "Star Search"- look at them now, especially Beyonce.

If these X factor contestants really want it they will pursue other avenues and not rely on X factor.

    I don't think it's cruel, but it's unfortunate.

Unfortunate they don't gas them all instead of auditioning them.
