Broadband penetration map of Ireland by county

Amas has recently published a broadband penetration map of Ireland. While a mediocre (by European standards) 39.9% of households in Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown have broadband, this drops to 22.1% in Cork city and Limerick is even worse at 19.3%. Galway city is 31.6%. More rural counties are typically in the 10 to 20% range.

Amas's chart of fastest broadband speeds is very out of date, and seems to be relying on info from the dozy OECD bureaucrats.

Italy - 255,000 households have fibre to the home.

Of course nothing compares with the super-slow (3 Mbits/sec max) overpriced broadband sold by the eircom monopoly - who managed to increase its DSL market share by 1% from 95 to 96% of the market according to the latest comreg report (fig 3.2.1 of ComReg0767).

Fupp when you see the map you realise just how awful things are - Wexford 10% thats criminal. Is not like its beyond the back of beyond.

Did ye see this bit

Broadband availability is increasing, but gaps
remain and sometimes not just in rural Ireland.
Despite a Dublin city centre location, and
sharing the same street as the
Department of Communications,
Energy and Natural Resources,
AMAS has been turned down
again for a DSL connection.
