There've been a lot of threads about quality of life issues and I was wandering has anyone done any research on the best place in Ireland to live? Taking into consideration the following:

    Quietness
    Lack of Crime
    Reasonable house prices
    Availability of employment etc

On a serious note i would recommend

    Baldoyle
    Howth
    Raheney
    Clontarf

All nice areas with decent transport and quite safe.

Passage East or Ballyhack both looked very nice when I was passing through via the ferry, if somewhat quiet

I went to Tramore a few weeks back, I was told it was a downmarket version of Bray, which amazed me as I didn't think anything could be downmarket compared to Bray. I was wrong.

The Lee Valley area of Cork - Farran, Ovens, Inniscarra. These are less than half an hour's drive from Cork city, in easy access of the South Link road, just a few minutes from Ballincollig, yet in the country. And absolutely beautiful scenery. House prices vary - you could look into buying a site. Existing one-off houses are probably very expensive, but there are also estates/developments that offer more reasonable prices.
There are quiet roads outside Blarney village too - like Waterloo Road and Station Road. Gorgeous areas - again, countryside but very close to all amenities.

Never lived in Galway, but have visited there. It's a really lovely city.. real down to earth people. I'd say there.

I love the countryside, even though I live in Dublin city centre. After coming back from a few days away in the south it surely has to be some of the bigger towns in the likes of Galway, Sligo, Cork and Kerry etc. Housing and services are generally cheaper, the atmosphere is better and you generally have peace and quiet if you want it.

I'm quite partial to Kinsale but have went there only on holidays. Maybe living there you'd get pissed off with the touristy thing and also maybe it is not as great craic in the Winter.

House prices are probably pretty dear I'd imagine.

It's a lovely place....actually a lot of West Cork/Kerry would be lovely to live in.

West Cork is fabulous indeed. But one would think your loyalties lie with a certain town in County Kildare.

I was there once, about 13-14 years ago. It was very quiet at the time, not much traffic except for the odd hosteller? but it was lovely, some very stunning countryside.
