Hi, the knobs for tone on my guitar have stopped working and I was just wondering is this an easy problem to fix that I could do myself or wouild I have to get a professional to fix it? I don't wawnt to take my guitar apart and then just make the problem worse!

When you say it's stopped working, what happens when you twist it?

Is there still sound coming from the amp though? (i.e. is there a signal coming from the guitar)

that's kinda wierd, never heard of that happening before.

it'd be a relatively easy enough job to replace the pots in your guitar, but it would involve soldering and all that so if your uncomfortable with that you'd be best off going and getting it done professionally.

if you do want to do it yerself, open it up, make a map of the existing wiring in your guitar (assuming the problem is in the pots, not the wiring, i'm not familiar with this kind of problem) remove connections on old pots and solder new one in place according to the diagram you made.

The cap might have fallen off or broken. Open up the electronics cavity and look for the capacitor on the tone pot. What guitar is it?

It's just a beginners guitar, Squier Strat, was thinking of getting a new one anyway, so if I have to get it fixed professionally I don't think I'll bother

do u even use the tone knob much? its prob a lil simple electronics issue, if its not that big of a deal then meh jus leave it

have a look and see if u can notice anything urself that can be fixed, might jus be a lil solering involved

well if you were thinking of getting a new one anyway, you might as well try your hand at fixing it yourself. soldering isn't difficult, and there a plenty of resources out there to help and guide you, like http://www.guitarnuts.com/index.php. internally anyway electric guitars are very simple, you dont have to be an electric engineer to get your head around them.
