Powerbook doesnt see portable usb hd

    Hi.

    My brother just got a WD Elements 160gig portable usb hard drive from Komplett.

    It works fine with my minimac (tiger), and fine with my macbook (tiger), but doesnt show up with his g4 powerbook (panther)

    I thought it might need to go into 2 usb ports with a special cable when used with a laptop, but its fine with my macbook. Perhaps it needs to be formatted differently for panther, or even partitioned?????

    Please if anyone has any advice, let me know.

    AGGHH GET IN THERE!

    I've got that good hack feeling.

    Figured it out, it needed power from 2 usb ports because the g4 powerbook is a bit of a wuss in that regard.

    managed to find a mini usb Y cable, but the problem then was that the usb ports on the powerbook were too far apart for the cable... so I needed to extend the usb....

    The only usb extension chord (female to male) I could find was off an old G5 mouse chord. This I had to smash with a hammer because Apple put an extra bit of metal in the female part (like a chastity belt) to try to force people to only use it with an apple mouse.. Anyway, I distroyed it, reassembled it, and now its working fine..
