I'm suprised at the amount of TP heads in this thread... Who said maths and science was becoming less popular?

Assuming the accommodation is in the IFSC/Docklands region, about 20/25 minutes.

Laptop needed for MSISS or trinity in general? Or is it any use?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,163 ✭✭✭✭Boston

You don't need a laptop for any course in trinity. You personally may find it useful for taking notes (Glorified a4 pad and pen) but thats about it. It is however important to have a personal computer. Something thats yours and no one else's.

A laptop is very handy for MSISS, in particular in 3rd and 4th year. However, as we have our own private computer room which is usually sufficient for all our study/gaming/socialising needs it's not the be all and end all.

For most MSISS courses pen and paper is a far easier way to take notes and there are very few essays given in first year so again laptop only if you really feel you need one.

On the other hand, if you're living in Trinity Hall then there's the internet in the bedroom factor which is very handy!

And welcome to the fantastic world of excitement and opportunity that is MSISS, the first term can be pretty hard but stick it through that and you'll fly! Oh, and I'm the 4th year repeat with the white macbook, come and say hi!

    TR084...social work!!!

Having doubts already...how easy is it to transfer courses??? :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 97 ✭✭low

Depends on the course and the department. most importantly you need to have the points for the course you want to move into and there needs to be a space available. Get in touch with your tutor in freshers' week and perhaps the education officer.

Just paid the fees and am starting tp in 3 weeks. Can someone please tell me what the first year is like. I want to know about the lecturers, other tp students, exams, studying, lecture times and how difficult 1st yr is compared 2 the lc. Cheers :)

Leaving Cert consists of rote learning.

    ...

What's rote learning again? You now must understand. I know nothing about TP, but I know it's going to be a completely different learning experience.

Ibid is of course right, very very different. And well far harder but eh its not too bad though it might seem that way when you start :)

I haven't gotten a letter about fees yet, just the information pack with a note in it saying "Information about fees will follow shorty".

    Should I be worried?

Mine came the same day as the information pack; I'd contact the Treasurer's Office asap if I were you. Have you paid already?

You could just log on to http://epay.tcd.ie/ and pay there. I think anyways. But otherwise yeah, get on to the Treasurer's Office. Surprising though, they're usually quite quick at getting in contact with people when they're looking to get money from them.
