Flour, ashes from the range and some water. What a mess when Mam found us on the kitchen floor one morning! :)

I used to make "magic" potions with the most disgusting stuff I could find in the garden, usually soggy petals and leaves and stagnant water, then I would add the "special ingredient" BAT'S BLOOD! (which I later found out was actually red food colouring, much to my dissappointment!) My dad kept this special "bats blood" in a cabinet out of my reach and told me it was very dangerous so only to add one or two drops to each potion.

I wanted to be a witch when I was younger :)

I remember trying to make wine by boiling wine gums in the kettle.. I was found out after my Mam made a pot of tea - not happy!!

Another one was making fizzy drinks (for my friends) by adding Andrew's liver salts to diluted orange. Needless to say I didn't know about the laxative properties of Andrew's when taken in high doses!

I remember having a great idea to make my own bread making my own flour from "wheat" (actually grass seeds) (I grew up in the city, I had no idea what wheat looked like) and mixing it with eggs and milk to make bread.

Thankfully my parents gently explained to me that it wasn't wheat before I could take it too far!

I recall on a school trip one time we had chips and coke. one bloke went to the toilet so we poured the remains of our coke into his container (the one with a lid and straw) then topped it up a bit with malt vingear.
when he returned we asked if he was going to finish his coke... hilarity ensued..
