Did someone say Gibson is Irish? If so, i hope Steve Staunton has MUTV.
Well, he'd never dream of going to watch Irish players in the flesh anyway.

Think Gibson has NI caps anyway.

    He doesn't
In 2005 he rejected Northern Ireland, whom he had previously represented at under-16 level, in favour of fulfilling his dream of representing the Republic of Ireland at senior international level, the country he and his family has supported all his life.

If only we had gotten Evans aswell we'd be flying

I have to say, Evans will be the best player in the world if he lives up to the hype. I've yet to see him play but everyone raves about him.

Darran Gibson was on the bench against Wales and Slovakia last March. The goals last night v doncaster were cracking ones. 2 unreal strikes. anserdons injury is a worry. cant wait for the cs tomorrow. wonder what will the team be?

    Van Der Sar
    Browne _ Rio _ Vidic _ Evra
    Nani _ Carrick _ O Shea _ Giggs
    Ronaldo _ Rooney

not sure what the bench will be considering that alot of other players are playing today (hargreaves for 1) and played also last night.

They were two great strikes. Is Gibson left or right footed or just great with both :)?

Both. If he keeps this up, he will displace Fletcher and O'Shea in midfield. His strikes aren't what is so impressive about him, it's his ability to maintain possession, it's Keane like.

That sounds like he is good then. Anyone would be better than Fletcher and O'Shea so it would be good to see him get his chance ahead of those two.

It will be interesting to see how Gibson does against chelsea tomorrow. Im presuming he is going to be getting some game time with Hargreaves lacking match fitness and Scholes injured. Its all well and good performing well against the likes of Doncaster but if he could put in a strong performance against a top class side like chelsea it could really give him the push he needs.

yeah gibson has the whole package to be a top player.have seen a bit of him over the last few years he used to look class in the reserves.i think north ireland fa are still tryin to dispute him playing for us .wud love to see him playin 2moro cud be the making of him if he did a good job

Darron Gibson started today against Peterborough and played 45 mins, then Hargreaves came on. Do you think the same arrangement will happen tomorrow in the Charity Shield? Somehow I think Fergie will put Darron on the bench and start Fletcher and Carrick in midfield, leaving Hargreaves out totally.

So what do we think the lineup for the game today will be then?

    VDS
    Brown---Rio
    Vidic----Evra
    Ronaldo--Carrick--Fletch--Nani

    Rooney---Giggs

    ????
Although I did hear reports Nani was unlikely to start.

looks good apart from nani swap for o'shea

im very interested to see how chelsea play after all this talk of more attacking style and playing with wingers again...

I reckon Chelsea will line up:

    Cech
    ?----Carvalho---Terry-Ben Haim
    Cole--Essien----Lampard--Malouda
    Drogba---Shev/Pizzaro---

Edit: I meant Malouda on the left - I put Joe Cole in twice.
    Is Cashley fit?

Cole at LB and Maluda on the wing i reckon.

Is there any Live streams for the match?

Ah I'm very disappointed, I've been away for a few days with no tv and I was hoping we'd see at least 1 or 2 of Nani, Anderson, Hargreaves or Tevez play. Still, it's the first pre-season match I'm able to watch in full so I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully it'll be better than the cup final...

Well Tevez had his first training session in about a month on friday - no chance of it. Hargreaves has only played 45minutes after injury, was highly unlikely. Anderson has only been training for a week, only 45minutes and tweeked his hamstring, was always unlikely. Nani was the only one of the 4 i reckoned had a real chance of playing, and he is on the bench.

Fairly poor line up for United.

Van der Saar, Brown, Vidic, Ferdinand, Silvestre, Evra, Ronaldo, O'Shea, Carrick, Giggs, Rooney.

I reckon O'Shea and Carrick in midfield, Evra on the left with Giggs up front.

Bench is Nani, Pique, Fletcher, Bardsley, Kuszczak, Martin and Eagles.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 49,324 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

well i've been hoping rooney or giggs would take the ones from about 25 for the last two years and it hasn't happened.

ya see the one he took from the acute angle out on the left where he had a shot?! boy needs to get a grip of himself, you'd think someone would have a word with him!

i don't mind that type of thing though, imo players should have been running in on that looking for a touch. was annoyed no one made the run.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

or the one he took in the first half where he just wellied it into the wall.

the rest of the players probably just couldnt be arsed cause they all just know he is going to welly it as hard as possible!

tevez isnt a bad free kick taker either actually

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 49,324 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

i think Ronaldo's style of free kick is fine from 30+ yards, as the hammer and hope style is as good as any other from that kind of range. When you get within that range you need more control though. hopefully someone like Tevez or Hargreaves will get the nod from close(ish) in.

Another thing is, though, that Ronaldo can he the controlled curler, I have seen him do it for portugal, so it amazes me that he never tries is for United. It would completely catch the keeper out.

Why? That free kick got us a goal against Liverpool.
