Sky Phone Line Clarification

    Hello,
Have heard lots of talk about this and all different with different opinions....

I am getting a Sky HD install on Monday and need a phone line ready (which i have)

    Now the catch ;-)

My phone line is through an ATA and currently I use the house alarm only on it and it works perfectly.. have tried to use it with an analog handset also .. works fine...

Now for the install i will move the ATA box so there is a line ready for the Sky HD install...

Question: What happens if I disconnect the line after the install ??? does it need to "call home" ?? will something break if I do so....

I basically want to get the house alarm back and running while I figure out a way of getting the second line for Sky...

I have heard of people paying an extra 40euro so they don't need a line during install... so obviously the system must somehow work without any line...

Also I would prefer this to be the case anyways even if i had an active line there today as I dont fancy a box that I would use regularly to be "calling home" with various usage stats etc...

    Any help insights greatly appreciated...

    -A

Even though a line is supposed to be connected for 12 months, if that's what you signed up to, the SkyHD box will work without line connected. But you will need line for activating card.

Perfect thanks for your reply... will have it set up for activation... but will have to move it after for the alarm...

    Cheers

For anyone else interested in this topic...

I can remove the telephone after the activation...

However .. Sky will call if they notice no "calls to base" after 6 days or something and will insist the phone is re-connected.

Apparently you have to leave the phone connected for at least 12 months... or these phone calls / reminders to re-connect phone will continue...

Mine is now disconnected so will see if this is true or not ;)

Not true in my case, I activated the HD box without a phoneline a few months ago

With the phone line disconnected when you switch on the box, it brings up a quick "please conect the phone line to experience the full range of the sky service" or something to that effect, pressing back up clears the message.
