UK tv in ireland?

    hey, if i buy an lcd hd tv in england will it work ok over here?


    didnt know where to post this so feel free to move it if it is in the wrong section.

    Some do, some don't. Just make sure the tuner has a "hyperband tuner" or one that states having both VHF and UHF tuning.

    Many UK Televisions can only receive UHF, so:

    In general it will work fine with 2 exceptions:
    1) If you're receiving RTE 1/2 with an antenna on VHF.
    2) You're using analogue cable (UHF,VHF,Hyperband required)
    ** You can get around these problems using an Irish spec. VCR/DVD recorder as your tuner and connecting it via a SCART to your TV.

    No problem at all if:
    1) You're using digital satellite/cable/MMDS and connected via SCART.
    2) You're using HDTV (SkyHD etc)
    3) You're receiving RTE1,2,TV3,TG4 etc on UHF only.
    4) No problem for DVD players, games consoles or any SCART/DVI connected device.

    Also, a lot of modern TVs will let you pick a country and the settings are largely done in software anyway.
    So, once you pick Republic of Ireland, usually you should be ok.
    They don't necessarily custom build TVs for each market anymore.

    Yeah, a lot of TV's just use one tuner, where certain options are enabled/disabled depending on the country you select.

    I remember the Sony Bravia of 2 or 3 years ago, which also had a DTT tuner. When Ireland was selected, you could tune on both UHF and VHF, but no DTT option. When you chose UK, you got UHF and DTT, no VHF option, which was a nuisance in parts of Donegal where Freeview can be received, and RTE1 and 2 are VHF from Truskmore!

    Sony seem to have ironed out that problem now though

    They'd want to have ! It could be considered a fault at this stage given that DTT is on the cusp of launching here.

    Are any of them likely to be able to decode MPEG4 or have slots for CAMs ?
