have 4 month old Jack Russell bitch, getting Bassett Hound bitch next month, will be 2 months when we get her. Any ideas if they will be suited together? Also, need to fence off a section of back garden to keep them in during the day, any particular type of fence to keep them from straying? thanks.

Can't see any reason why they shouldn't be suited.
They're both young, they'll grow up together ...shouldn't be a problem.

One hint though ...you say you're going to get the Basset at 8/9 weeks old, if you can (and you're getting her from a good breeder) leave her at the breeders for another 4 weeks.
Between 8 - 12 weeks is when pups pick up most of their future social skills from their environement. They learn how to behave and how to "speak" dog languague from the older dogs around them.

Letting the Basset "learn" from a JR pup that's only weeks older and totally inexperienced might nor be such a good idea for both of them.

As for fencing ...chain link fence, at least 1.5 m high (above ground) and some of it buried in the ground to prevent digging under it.

Personally I don't think it's a great idea to have 2 pups at the same time. But to answer your question there is no reason why they wouldn't get on.
