Right... so when the term "paddy wagon" was coined in the states it had nothing to do with the fact that 90% of the occupants of said wagons were Irish then?
Still, it's these foreigners we have to watch out for. Up the Irish!

ISTR that the majority of these "paddy wagons" had Irish at the wheel as well! In some parts of the states the Irish were traditionally employed as policemen.

I have to say I agree.

My parents have had lots of difficulties in finding reliable staff for the filling station/shop that they run. The situation is so bad that instead of trying to hire locally; we go directly to FÁS. They then put us into contact with several dozen Lithuanian/Polish people who are hungry to work. In all but one or two cases, we get hard-working and punctual staff who will happily work at the minimum wage. It's a win-win situation, they get relatively good money and we make more money.

If anything, I would like to see an even more open immigration system that would allow Bulgarians and Romanians freedom of movement.

Well most Polish have fluent English, are catholic, work hard, will go to the pub.

They are our Eastern European clones. It doesn't hurt that their white aswell I suppose.

The other thing we have in common is we both got treated like crap by our neighbours in the past.

Any Polish people I have met, I have liked. 2 Polish people told me on two seperate occasions recently that the Poles are being lured home. I know NOTHING about football but is there a European Championship being held there in 2012? Well whatever games they are hosting, the government has decided that the Polish infrastructure leaves A LOT to be desired and consequently they are making it very attractive for the Polish construction workers to move back home from Ireland. So we could see a mass exodus of them when the construction industry here goes belly up, especially if the money is there to support them.

Does that mean the Polishettes will stay behind & there's no longer competition from Polish men????????

    Bad news for Irish women!

i worked with a lot of poles as a doorman and they were great guys and a good laugh and one became a real good friend but they have a chip on their shoulder about the celtic tiger - they view ireland as a ****hole, the irish as lazy ****es and feel hard done by that ireland gain this wealth rather than poland.
funnily enough they are exceedingly racist - hate russian and blacks, drink a lot and have hot women so I guess that's why they mix well with the irish

one question: do they work so hard in poland?]
I doubt it. I think a lot of the hard work is down to new job syndrome and trying to impress the boss.
irish people just realise that the company or boss they work for isn't going to reward them for extra hard work so why should they kill themselves without extra reward.
As for OT - if you don't need it then why volunteer for it. Just cos the polish do - it doesn't mean the irish are lazy

I suppose Nigerians are'nt the most talked about when it comes to own newspapers etc. Nigerias first language is indeed English, whereas Poland's is polish.

Utter bollocks. They were called paddy wagons because the police were Irish, not the occupants. Ever see those old Tom and Jerry cartoons, the police guy always spoke with an "Oirish" accent. Same with the old batman and robin series, commissioner Gordon and company.
And we've been happily exporting our home grown scumbags all over the world for centuries. The past 20 years, we've been exporting our scumbag terrorists to those friendly arabs.

Still, it's these foreigners we have to watch out for. Up the Irish!
Actually it was the Americans that trained and equipped Middle Eastern terrorists to a great extent, and laid the ground work for the shambles we have there today, along with the British in Iraq.

But don't let a few facts get in the way of you bending over backwards to run down your fellow countryman, assuming you are Irish, like a good lad...

The clue is in the username Ibid, as I'm sure you've gathered ;)

I remember visiting Auschwitz a while back. The tour guide, while not on the face of it minimising the extent of the Jewish massacre, went to great lengths to stress the amount of Poles, gypsies and others who perished, to the point where their loss was a dominant part of the tour, by comparison to the widely held view that the camps were dominantly populated by Jewish people.

I think the fact that 90% of people killed at Auschwitz were Jewish would describe them as being the dominant group.

I work with a lot of Polish and Eastern European people. They work so much harder than any of us, but the majority of them also have 2-3 jobs. One person I knew had 4 jobs, and would regularly be working 48hours in a row, and the majority of the money would be sent back to their family back home. I have yet to hear anything bad said to them yet, but if I do I will be sure to not serve whoever said it.

Was Poland voting in the Eurovision? If so, who did they give the 12 points to?

I dont like them. They wont vote for us in the Eurovision.

Thats quite interesting. I dont fish for Pike as much as I used to, but ANYONE I talk to say the Poles are destroying the lakes. Iam hearing of vigilante farmers walking around with shotguns.

Much as I hate to break up this impromptu meeting of the amateur witchfinders association, the opinion of a few posters doth not a nation make... or to put it another way I've never encountered a more open, friendly and welcoming people on average, than the Irish. Our national motto is "Céad mile fáilte", for goodness sake. Obviously that doesn't account for everyone, but yes, for most I find that they take people on a case by case basis.

I mean think about it. The last figure I heard was that there have been 400,000 immigrants coming into Ireland over the last 5 or 6 years. Thats about 10% of the population, which by any standards isn't normal migration, its closer to an invasion. Any other country you'd have had riots in the streets and gulag refugee camps. In fact, you have exactly that in many of our more "enlightened" European neighbours.

So don't be so hard on the Irish, we're doing alright. I'll tell you one thing, if we do succeed in peacefully integrating immigrant populations, we'll be the first in history to have achieved it.

Well, i would have imagined that if Polish people were integrating so well, they wouldn't have their own newspapers and TV shows.

This may sound repetitive but I dont think that they are proportionately better looking than Irish women. I think its more that there is a much smaller percentage who are hugely overweight and/or downright ugly to look at. For example, pretty much every Polish bird Ive met is pokeable, but when it comes to the proportion that are jaw droppingly turn head to look beautiful its roughly the same as Irish women tbh. They have less ugly women but not necessarily more absoloute crackers.

Anyway who cares if there are a load of Polish women in this country, 90% plus seem to arrive with the husband or long term boyfriend (though in nightclubs they arent impossible to score i.e they seem well prepared to cheat). Its rare to see an Irish guy going with a Polish bird, and Im not sure I have ever seen a Polish guy with an Irish girl. Any of the women here care to say why?

As for the religion thing I wouldnt rate it as a cause at all. Alot of Poles Ive met like to claim to be religious but the truth is most havent even been to mass since arriving here, its probably more they are proud to be Catholic because the Soviet puppet govs tried to ban it. Much like in the north people who have not stepped in a church in years are proud catholics, because its almost an ethnic identity.

Well my brothers mate is getting married to a Pole soon.
She intends to go back there and live in Poland.

In fairness the men aren't half bad either, very "eastern block" looking, clear skin, blue eyes. A damn sight better looking in general than Irish men.

As for why Irish women aren't taking to them.. I've a few theories, but mostly I think its that a lot of them seem to arrived attached.

I think that the reason why Irish people don't mind them is because their generational culture in inherently similar to ours. It's similar to a huge amount of Spanish or Italians arriving. I think that the majority will return to Poland once the Polish economy is thriving, and that many will marry here or settle.
It's always easier to get on/integrate with cultures that don't seem alien and are very approachable, plus if you can bring them out for a drink and get to know them, its a hell of a lot easier.

Yeah I know, but despite their huge numbers you see more Irish men with Asian and African birds than East European. Which is why I always laugh at anti Irish women thrad posters

"Ive went out with Polish, Latvian, Lithuanian, *insert 10 more fantasy foreign woman here* and they all beat the Irish"

Its either bollix, or you can replace "went out with" with the sentence "arranged to fcuk in exchange for 120 euros"

re the census I think it would be generally thought to be somewhat inaccurate on a range of results.

Actually come to think of it, you don't see that many Polish men out at clubs around town etc...
Too sensible to be paying extortionate money for pints perhaps?
Whereas women always love a bit of a dance so maybe that's why?? The Polish birds are out, while the blokes frequent the pubs the odd time but not overpriced clubs?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,799 ✭✭✭Tha Gopher

Depends what clubs. In Zanzibar most nights yid be hard pressed to find many Irish people of either sex. Alot go to Spirit as well, and some spots on Parnell St Ive never been to. As said they know their dance music, you will find next to none of them in the likes of Redz or Tramco. Ive seldom if ever seen Poles in a pub having a pint unless they are in the company of Irish people.

The term "paddy wagon" is used in the states to signify the drivers of the police vans , mostly irish cops ie. ny, chicago , san francisco , boston etc.

The derogatory meaning would be the british based , surprise, surprise

I know theyre not all bad, but sometimes i find the polish guys a bit intimidating. Theyre all built like brick ****houses and perpetually frowning.
A friend of mine moved to rush with his gf, got a house down there, all going well. A few poles moved in a couple of doors down, he'd see them around the place and say hello to them and whatnot. One night coming home from work they were outside the house smoking, and called him over as he walked past. He went over and chatted for a bit, they were having a party so invited him in. He went in, had a laugh and a drink, all going fine til one guy barged in the door and started freaking out that they were all making too much noise, and he picked on my friend as being the chief culprit. So my friend got up, very sorry, made his excuses and left, but the polish guy followed him out of the house and down the road, still shouting at him, bereating him for being too loud, when my mate got to his own front garden, the polish lad hopped on him and kicked the **** out of him, all his buddies came out of the house and instead of stopping him, joined in and bet the crap out of my mate, he needed reconstructive surgery afterwards.

So yeah, some of em are a bit scary. But the hotness of polish women is undisputable.

Have to agree with the working aspect of it, they do work hard which is something. Maybe I am on my own here but I find a lot of them quite rude and ignorant. If you are in a shop they will push you or stand in front of you when you are looking at something. They are lunatics on the road (I know a lot of the irish are aswell). They stand outside their flats drinking and throw their cans and bottles on the ground. I could go on...
I am not a racist, far from it, I work with a lot of different races and don't have a problem with any of them. Just a few observations I made with the eastern european people that I have seen around my area.
