US Immigration raided his apartment and he's now residing in Guantanamo Bay.

US Immigration read Boards, so they do.

OP, didn't you photocopy your passport, Visa and other important documents before you left? They should surely help.

I didnt send passport home.It was stolen on subway home. For some reason, the Irish consulaate has no record of me.They are contacting the Irish embassy in Washington to see if they have something to verify I am Irish.

Go in and quote lines from Peig, surely enough to prove your ethnicity?

If you have a record of your passport number then they'll be able to use that to verify your entry. Someone in your family should be able to get a copy of your birth cert too.

Try arguing with them in Irish, what other nationality could you be?

    Or turn up drunk :p

Sing them Amhrán na bhFiann as Gaeilge. Make sure you mumble the last two lines.

Seriously, as others have noted, get your birth cert.

Continuously quoting Peig at them would certainly motivate them to try and get you as far away from them as possible.

Just dye your hair ginger and dress all in green and keep yammering on about the blarney stone and your pot o' gold. They'd easily believe you're Irish after that :D

You should wander around the airport asking people if they have seen your lucky charms. You'll pass for a native no bother.

Seriously though, at US immigration your passport details would have been logged at point of entry. Ditto with the airlilne. Failing that you should be able to request a replacement after contacting the gardai and passport office.

Btw, +1 for becoming a merc.

Two days ago.My passport was stolen in Ireland along with all my ids and birth cert.
Killer blow as I was yet to get my social security number yet.
Went to Irsh consulate in New York to get a form to prove I was an Irish citizen. They searched the database and have no record of me ever being an Irish citizen.Hence.They can't issue the form meaning I can't work in the states and I can't go home.
What the hell am I suppose to do?

'cause i am leaving on a jet plane
don't know when i'll be back again
oh no no babe i hate to go
but i want cha'bring the one he say now
but i am leaving on a jet plane
don't know when i'll be back again "

    or maybe not

Did they play that at his funeral?

I'd have loved to have heard that at the funeral. I'd quite happily drive up and down past the cemetary in an ice cream van playing that.

My **** of a friend had it in his backpack the whole time. The evil ****.
Slapped him around the place earlier tonight.

Can't beat a good gag like that, especially the sense of relief you get when the joker owns up.

That said, why did you let the document(s) out of your sight/ownership at all in order for this to happen? Their value especially when in a foreign country is innumerable and their possession should not be treated lightly...

Well, isn't it good to know that if you ever really lose your passport/documents, that you have, at least, the support of your friends on Boards!
