Extend an IDE cable with another?

Well thats my question can you join one IDE cable on to another to extend it? I ask because I have only on IDE port on my mainboard and have 1 IDE HD and two IDE DVD drives. Any suggestions on a way around this would be great.

IDE supports only 2 drives per channel
