if only more people were concerned with reading lots of threads before posting and figuring out how things worked here...everyone would be a winner

Depends on what you have to say really. Could be 10, could be 1000.

Did Pighead start off in the 3rd person from post 1?

I disagree, post counts and join dates can be very useful for mods. It makes spotting "phoenix accounts" easier and most of us go a bit easier on very new people because we figure that they don't know the rules yet.

Apart from that, post counts mean nothing in terms of you being a member of the community. You could have 50 posts and be considered to be a regular in some of the smaller forums here and have no visible presence on the site in general. Similarly you could have 5,000 posts and post in only a handful of forums and be an unknown when you post somewhere new. This happens occasionally on here when I see a post from someone with a couple of thousand posts who I've never seen before because they don't post in the forums I read. The amount you contribute and the quality of what you contribute in a forum is what makes you a member of the community in my opinion. The thing to remember is that while there is a big overarching community in terms of boards.ie there are loads of smaller communities nestled in individual forums or groups of them.

Some people might never really be boardies whereas somebody like me is straight in amongst the old heads and the elite after a handful of well chosen posts.

Well I've got a post count of over a thousand (can't remember what it is exactly) but I don't think I'd be considered a boardsie cos I'm on here so infrequently... I racked up most of that post count two years ago on the Leaving Cert board! I think it's really more for people who are regular posters and who post stuff that is actually worth reading, nobody likes a troll

[edit - gosh my post count is a lot higher than I thought! 1701!]

I've seen people that have been here only a few months and have twice or three times the anount of posts that I do. Does that make me more of a newbie than them? It doesn't mean anything imo.

Then i'm some sort of ultra newbie? 4 years and you've nearly the same post count as i do ( posting to check :o )

    lurkers ftw!
