6 months passport validity

    Hi guys.

    On official sites that give information regarding entry and visas to a country etc.

    If the sites says something like "Most countries in the region require at least six months validity on a passport in order to grant a visa." or " must hold a passport which is valid for a period of at least 6 months"

    Does that mean your passport must be six months old? Or six months left before it is out of date?

    Sorry for some might think is a stupid question:p

    It means it must have at least six months left on it before it expires when you leave the country you are visiting.

    This stipulation doesn't apply to EU countries if you hold an EU passport, so you can travel right up to the day your passport expires.

    ring up teh embassy or consulate of the countries in question you are wanting to visit - they will tell you the deal with getting a visa with regard to how long you have held your current passport for.

    also what are peoples experiences of An Post passport express, they promise within 10 working days to have it deliverd. Has that been peoples own expereince of the service?

    Used it twice for myself, no problems (actually less than 10 days both times). Never heard of it failing for anyone I know.

    Last stupid question I promise. :p

    But when you send your old passport back to get re-issued a new one, it is completly new right?

    It wont have the old stamps of the countires you had visited on the old one, it will have clear pages?

    Is that right?

    kindof owuld like to have the old stamps still there to remind me.

    Yes, that's right you'll get a brand spanking new one. They should also give you back your old one with a cancelled stamp on it and the corners cut off.

    5 days is the norm for off peak times. During the summer the odd few can take 12-15 days. I have friends who work there
