should be a good experience for her, in the simple life show she was still spoilt and making a joke out of it. Would be fun to see her trying to cope with some proper simple living behind bars. Prison food meets paris hilton, she'll probably starve to death

Ah yes but I doubt she'll serve the entire sentence....
It works differently in the states. They generally have to serve the full sentence.

Convicted? Soon to be ex-con? Is this a new fashion statement for celebrities? "Oh, rehab is so passe'! Have you tried prison darling? Martha has a new cell decor line out you just must see to believe! I mean, get with it, cause everyone is doing it!"

I suppose a prison sentence doesn't mean that much when you're so drowningly rich. Like seriously, is she afraid her [scoff] potential employers [/scoff] will find out?

They should have made her sweep the streets for 6 months, like Boy George.

Though i think she'd prefer prison over that.

Yeah, I can see it now. Young girls ditching their size zero crash diets in favour of petty crime. It's the new bullemia people.

Hilton appeared stunned by the ruling and began to cry. Hilton's mother also began to show her displeasure visibly, shaking her head -- and had be warned by a court official to stop.

"I don't know what happened. I did what they said," Hilton said afterward.

Her mother, Kathy, told the prosecutor after the judge's decision: "You're pathetic."

    Who's Paris Hilton???

good to see jealousy is alive and well -- its like when Pete Doherty is in court -- there seams to be an unsatiable appetite for "OUR" celebrities to suffer -- particularly by those who actually purchase the rubbish that makes them celebs in the first place -- driving without headlights , admitedly when banned , is hardly crime of the century , and more stupidity IMO -- we are all guilty of stupidity at certain periods of our life -- so should we all serve custodial sentences -- community service or treatment centre would be sufficient -- instead of satisfying our gory hunger for celebrities downfall.

No it wouldn't be sufficient - a regular citizen would not get off lightly, so it's good that someone like that appaling role model Hilton has been given justice.

Her behaviour as reported in many media types influences much younger kids, it's a good thing that money couldn't buy her out. SHe wants to be a celebrity and indeed having inherited loads of money is all that makes her different - now she is the ultimate celebrity, someone who shows what happens when you repeatedly break the law.

She showed up for court 15 minutes late. She got what she deserved IMO.

    .

i agree she is an appalling role model , and she is a celebrity ,
for no other reason than her family name, which i find sad about our current obssession with celebrity life styles - at least pete doherty has some talent -- but if i or any other normal people were sent to jail for driving with no headlights , even if banned , i would think it very severe -- i agree we should all be judged equally , celeb or not -- just seams to be a lot of the ghoulish whore calling here -- when no one here knows her or any problems she may have -- particluarly by those interested in celebrities lifestyle , they seam the most enjoying her fall.

I get where thebaz is coming from here and there certainly is an element on this thread and out in the real world that are revelling in the punishment meted out to Ms Hilton....you have to wonder how much of that is borne out of a sense of jealousy or envy really, especially when most of the people (at least in this thread) expressing those views are of the female persuasion. Plain old bitchiness really.

But regardless of how people react to her sentencing it's the right thing to do. People no matter who they are cannot be seen to flout the law, even apparently minor ones. Money can't be seen to be a get-out clause in times of trouble.
Ms Hilton is just some blonde ditz born into the right family who's grown up with the wrong attitudes and is now paying for her stupidity and indifference to state law. In America that gets you jail and rightly so. If only we took a less tolerant approach in this country to driving offences.
She was banned from driving. Shouldn't be drinking and driving in the first place, even stupid people know that. But to jump back behind the wheel? How can a judge not jail her? What message does it send if someone like that walks twice in a row?

Thats the first thing I thought of. . . I wonder if any lesbo footage will end up on you tube ?:D

It was a third strike. She was banned for drink driving. Caught driving once. Didn't go to a class she was mandated to. Caught driving again. Turned up 15 minutes late to court. Frankly, there's only so far you can push it.

i dont think its severe at all. firstly, as others have pointed out, there was more than that involved. secondly, if we adopted a zero tolerance3 approach to all crimes in this country then perhaps our roads and streets would be a lot safer.
