Not actually 8.4v

    Wasn't sure how well charged my battery was earlier, so decided to check the voltage with a multimeter (battery voltage drops when it needs to be recharged), was surprised to discover the battery voltage was at 8.4v even though it seemed to be pretty empty, put it on charge for a while and the voltage is up to 9.8v now.

    anyone else ever noticed this with their batteries?

    Not an expert but, try testing the out put of the PSU. You will also find this is high but when you place a load IE the battery on it, and test it again, it should drop down a little. If in the discharge state the battery reads below 8.4 then it needs to be replaced. I used to work on UPS's Uninterpretable Power Supplies so they used those big rechargeable batteries and the same thing happened to them.

    fair point alright, under load the battery would be lower, i also figured that most times battery cell's run somewhere between 1.2v and 1.5v, so this might up the voltage if the cells are actually running at 1.4 or something
