I'm sorry guys, but why not just get a real mastercard? Only charges you'll encounter is government stamp duty. You'll never pay interest if you pay it off once it shows up in your account. Don't tell me you don't have the discipline to do that.

Some people simply can't get a real credit card, nor want the problems of a real card.

I'm unemployed and I live with my parents....who is going to give me a credit card?

Ahh thats good, thanks. When I get the actual card, can I use it in an atm, and will it cost much?

The actual physical card isn't available...yet. You'll have to check the fees section of the Wirecard website...but AFAIK there is a yearly fee for having it and fees for using it in an atm. I therefore won't be getting the card.

To be honest.. i've a Laser / Maestro card which i use ALL the time in shops / restaurants etc.

The only time i'd ever use an actual credit card is buying online. This way is just as easy.. i can transfer free from the AIB Banking Online whenever i need to and a couple of minor transaction fees are worth it in the savings.

    My 2c anyways!

I totally agree with you there.

But don't they send you the card out free in the post? I thought thats what they said on their website, that after you have put money in for the first time that they send you the card?

No they only give you a virtual card for free.

I have a laser/maestro like basquille that i use when i can. When I have to use a credit card online Wirecard works out cheaper even with the fees because i wouldn't be using it enough to justify the government duty.

    Heya Mr. T.,
The only reason I'd want a credit card is for buying stuff online. In the past I might only have bought as few as 2 or 3 small items online in a year. The Government duty was really eating into the savings I was making, so it ended up not worth having a credit card at all.

"Shop around" is the message from the government - I'm trying but I reckon they could make it easier! :(

The Irish Government charges a fixed fee for Credit Cards yearly. But seeing as this card is issued from Germany (and not Ireland) the issue of whether or not you're liable to pay this tax is raised.
Don't know if a Wirecard meets the definition of a credit card but
    revenue.ie wrote:
The location of the card issuer is irrelevant as to whether an account comes within the charge. A credit card issued by a foreign financial institution to an individual with an address in the State comes within the charge while a card issued by any financial institution to an individual whose address is outside the State does not.

hmmm tricky question. Could you not say that its not a credit card but a prepaid card? Also that its only a "virtual" credit card???

Hopefully Wirecard will have looked into this issue before setting up.

If wirecard is liable for the tax would not 3v also, it's basically the same concept.

good idea but if you dont have internet banking its kind of anoying having to go to a bank to get a transfer..

Ahh but thats the joys of haveing internet banking:D . A lot of people do have the internet banking, and in my opinion it is really worth it. The only thing I do not like about the whole Wirecard thing is that when you lodge money into your wirecard account it won't appear there for 3 days. I think this is a bit of a pain, because knowing my luck I will see something on Ibood for example and go to my wirecard account and see that there is not enough funds in it. That's one thing that I don't like, well, its actually the only thing I don't like.

My attempts to set up a Wirecard account last night ended in failure. I'm being asked to contact their support team. Anyone else have similar problems?

Yeah! That's why I plan to at least €10000 in the account at all times. For the day iBOOD throw up a bargain sports car. :D

Get up off your bum once, go into a BOI branch and lodge €501 to Wirecard's Dublin account and it'll appear in one day. You have two years to spend it.

Yeah, same. I'm a poor student. AIB still gave me a card.

Take this scenario. You see something on ibood today. With my card, i can go ahead and buy it, and pay it off as soon as it hits the account on internet banking.
With this card, you have to transfer the money over, wait however long that takes, then realise you've missed out on the offer.

The amount I use my card makes the stamp duty seem like nothing. I consider it as insurance for the year against my wallet being lost/stolen with cash in it for the year. With the transaction charges on this card, combined with the apparent fee to have an actual plastic card, I'm paying less with the stamp duty.

I'm not an idiot. I don't pay interest on the card. If I don't have enough money to pay the card off (which has never happened), I'd go to the credit union and get a decent interest rate.

Maybe this card will be good for some low-volume users, but my real mastercard suits me down to the ground.

If you pay the €12 urgent fee it arrives the same day. Otherwise do as others said and go into a BOI and other people have suggested and lodge directly to their BOI Dublin account and it will be there the next day!

Do you have to have an account in the BOI? Im an AIB member!

Also, I take it those details are on the website?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,472 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

No. You don't need an account there!

All those details are on the website.

or you can set up a transfer to their BOI through your online banking. BOI and AIB both defo do it, maybe PTSB aswell, just ring them and quote this IBAN, sort cdode, account number and your reference number. No need to go into any BOI branches!

But the point I was making is that its quicker going into your account by going into a branch than the online banking.

Ah, so its quicker that way. Ill keep that in mind.

Also, each account has a limit of 300euro unless you send them a passport copy signed by a guard.

I dont have any option for using PayPal - how do I go about setting this up?

what verification does it look for lads, or do they just send the card out to the address and allow you to top up by certain amounts, me thinks if i use an ssl proxy i can get a prepaid us credit card send to my usa address, which would allow me to shop the us merchants? any thoughts

Can any confirm that there are limits on what you can deposit....€300? Or that you have to provide proof of who you are after €300? Their FAQs are confusing to say the least

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,472 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

I think that BOI drones won't allow you to deposit more than 300 at a time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 416 ✭✭tvr

there seems to be a limit , alright they said if you present your identification at a German Embassy it will get removed , seems abit bizarre. Anyone seem the us idea will not work as its issued in Germany. Anyone known how they get in the US market and how they get on with US online retailers, the fact being it is a Germany Issued Mastercard.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,472 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

I have ordered from US retailers with no problems at all. They don't care so long as they get their money.

Have you had your wirecard account blocked? How much had you used it?

Yes I contacted them and the limit is 300euro unless you give them some sort of identification, signed by a garda or someone like that.
